MY BROTHERS KEEPER
Am I My Brother’s Keeper

My brother is one of those types of men who have that kind of “go-getter” attitude. My father was the same way until he reached that unexplainable age where I can’t bare him anymore. My dad is still the same even without my brother being home twenty four seven back then. My brother always had the old sayings as if he was in his sixty’s but yet only in his early twenty’s. There are some things that my family do that anyone would called weird but everyone has their own opinions and their own family. My parents were never strict and till this day I do blame them for most things that happened but we all live and we all learn. We were as tight as a family before I became a teenager, but as the years went by we just grew apart. My sister Tiffany and my brother Cordale where the closest to each other, anybody could tell you a crazy story about what them two have got into when they were younger. The one story I always hear is when they both tried to sneak out the window by tying two sheets together. Some wouldn’t believe the gain and the lost that my whole family has been through and as of 2014; it has been the most difficult.
My brother was one the type that never really wanted to listen to anybody but the sound of his own voice. That is one of the reasons that he had got into so much trouble with people and the law. He started acting out around the age of fifteen when he moved out my parents’ house and into his mom’s house when I was eight. That is one of the decisions my dad wished he had never made because Cordale wasn’t taught like our father wanted to teach him. He wanted Cordale to be like a great man and someday a great father. His mom terry didn’t teach him right from wrong she just let him do whatever he wanted and that caused him to be in the situation he is in till this day. Cordale learned a little more because of his mom boyfriend, and only because Cordale mom had a son of her own.
By then his mom wanted

The way that someone is brought up has a huge effect on who they grow up to be. If someone is raised by hardworking guardians, that love and care for them unconditionally, then the outcome of the child will most likely be that of a typical hard working kid with goals for their future. Life changing experiences as well as just everyday experiences play a substantial part in determining a person, especially in their younger years from grade school all the way to highschool and college. Facts and real life stories back this claim up. A good kid going down the right path, can easily be convinced to participate in bad behavior simply by peer pressure and the effort to “fit in” with the crowd. This kind of thing is commonly seen in high school. Guardians of someone can do their best to lead their child down the path to success, but at the end of the day it is the kids decision on what they want to…

My younger brother was what schools and communities like to label a “troubled kid”, his antics making history when he was the first kindergartner to be expelled from our private school. What my mother saw was a carbon-copy of herself, and every side eye and negative comment was an echo of offensive remarks made about her own behavior as a child. Whenever my brother got into trouble for his disregard of authority or bad attitude, my mother saw it as a victory: my brother wasn’t just sticking up for himself, he was sticking up for my…

One common thread that runs through all of us is the need to be the best. My mom, Jennifer, raised me and my 22 year old brother, Alex, like she had two roommates. From day one we were given as much respect as we deserved and as much trust as we could handle. My mom never really gave us rules as kids; she taught us how to behave, and her only discipline was sign language and an evil glare that would send chills down your spine. That was all we needed. If me or my brother ever acted up my mom would sign for us to “knock it off now” with a serious glare and we would stop. “I…

She used to fight my parents and sneak out at night—more so once she began attending high school—which caused immense strain on our family. During this, I held the responsibility of raising my little sister. I helped her get ready in the mornings and comforted her when the arguments got heated among the rest of the family. After much encouragement and bickering, we convinced my eldest sister to go to college which she dropped out of after a year and a half. I had to be a parental figure for my little sister; I had to “grow up” and move out of my childhood faster than most to support and protect her.…

I would say that my brothers had more freedom than the girls, and it wasn’t because of their age. It was because of their sex. And my father wasn’t the only one who was that strict it was all my uncles and great cousins. So that kind of destroyed my relationship with my family when I grew up. Because I just don’t raise my daughters to cook and clean and become a good wife to a man. I raise all my kids the same boys and girls to grow up and take care of their things. My kids have the same curfew and same responsibilities.…

I remember I sometimes hated leaving my mom and dad. I wished I could be with both of them at the same time. Me and my sisters lived in a new house in Everett, with our then new Step dad, Mom, and baby sister Meghan. Whenever we went over to my dads, there was always something my parents were fighting about, whether it involved us or not, we would always get an earful from both of them. This point of their separation really affected me the most. I didn’t realize until I got older that we should have never been exposed to that part of their lives, considering how young we were. Another part of their divorce was dealing with a step dad I’ve never been fond of, and neither were my sisters. It was somewhat of a culture shock, him growing up in Mexico, and for us, as we began living with a guy who wasn’t even our dad. I would always ask my mom why she couldn’t have married someone else. Someone we liked. My step dad was the type of guy who only cared about his “real” children, not us. It became a constant struggle for attention from my Mom. When we were young, my sister and I were treated like maids around the house when my step dad was around. He is honestly one of the main reasons why the divorce was so heartbreaking for me and my siblings. I feel as if my mom had married someone who supported her and loved her unconditionally; it would have made more of a positive impact during this hard time in our…
