If Jesus Walked the World Today: Country Western Song
Title: If Jesus Walked the World Today
Performer: Alan Jackson
Composer: Alan Jackson
Source: Youtube
Comments: This song definitely has a song country western feel to it, as well as Christian tone because of the lyrics. Alan Jackson uses humor in this song to catch people’s attention by saying that Jesus would be a hillbilly if he were to come back to Earth. I like the use of the guitar in this song because it is what makes the song have a more country rhythm. I think the lyrics are what is most memorable about this song because it allows people to think of Jesus as not only a son a God, but also a common person who acts like everyone else. I think that makes people feel more comforted to know that Jesus was a person that lived a life like average person and went through hardship just like any other person.
Title: I Lift My Hands
Performer: VaShawn Mitchell
Composer: VaShawn Mitchell
Source: Youtube
Comments: The first thing I noticed about this song is how calming it is and how beautiful the instruments are. There is one instrument used that I really liked but I can’t tell what it is. It sounds sort of like a maraca but softer. The guitar also helps set the slow, intense tone that the song gives off. I like how the song is sung by numerous people at once and they sing it in perfect harmony. Then VaShawn Mitchell has a solo and you can tell the strong relationship he has with God just by the way he sings. I also like how the other singers repeat what he say so it emphasizes the words he is singing.
Title: You Raise Me Up
Performer: Josh Groban
Composer: Graham, B./Lovland, R.
Source: Youtube
Comments: I think the most memorable part about this song is the powerful message it sends out. I think that is also why it speaks to me. It talks about how having a relationship with God can be what help you get through rough times. All the instruments combined with his voice give the song an amazing harmony. I like the use of the drums and the violin in this song. I

The movement starts at the same time as the music. The dancers slowly move into a deep plie in second with the left arm reaching out to the side and palm facing the audience. The right arm is arched and the elbow elevated. The pitch rises and so do the dancers. As the line “I’ve been buked and I’ve been scorned” is repeated so is the motif, however this time it is inverted so as it is the right arm reached out and the left arm arched. Te pitch rises again and the dancers rise with it to standing with their arms extended upwards and their fingers spread out. Their focus is up, suggesting they are reaching out to god.…

Upon researching for Civil War era songs, I noticed there was a pattern between the lines of the songs. They were pleasing poetry, with a simple arrangement to be played on the piano and was easily memorable to sing to others. They ranged as far from political ideas, to heroes in war, loved one's misfortune, and plenty more. Each song I listened, I felt the emotion that was poured on to the writing. I can see how it resonated in many citizens and how it the words would spread so quickly. These songs were expressing how many felt during that time period. The war was so bloody and many were injured or killed, it was a time of anguish and suffering- whether that be economically, politically, and/or socially. I think the song, Lorena, does accurately reflect the era. People could relate to it and it subtly opens the idea that everything the person is exposed too, makes them slowly get detached from their lover. They can't control it, but they can still remember the sweet few memories of the past to hold on to, to keep their sanity in this war. The song Lorena was very popular during the Civil War due to this, as the soldiers began to think of their…

In the book, “More than a Carpenter,” Josh McDowell shows how Jesus Christ was more than just a teacher of good principles or a significant person in history. He was God in the flesh who entered the world and exclusively proved His deity. This book shows how Jesus is different from religious historical figures, guides the reader through proofs of Christianity, and logically shows that Jesus Christ was Lord. He shows that Jesus would not have died for a lie and that if Jesus did not rise from the grave, then he would not be the Messiah. Christ has changed many lives because he lived a perfect life, died on the cross for everyone’s sins, and rose from the grave.…

In 1996, Arjona wrote the song “Si el Norte Fuera el Sur” (If the North were the South), in which he expresses a subjective, yet truthful point of view of what the North American culture is; and how it could change if we exchange places with the South. In this song, Arjona uses many literactully techniques such as irony and analogies; Arjona also adds a type of hardcore rock and an interesting use of the electric guitar.…

The song I will be singing is called God Help the Outcast. It was recorded and released in 1996 with score by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Some of you may recognize bits of it from a well known Disney movie called The Hunchback of Notre Dame but it isn’t the exact same. The movies version is sung by the female lead Esmeralda. She uses it as a prayer while asking for the protection of her people the gypsies. A reason this song really resonates with me is the fact that she is that she doesn’t bother praying for herself but others around her.…

Journeys are a multi-faceted concept which can result in both positive and negative outcomes. “A Righteous Day” (1988) by Mudrooroo and “A Road Not Taken” (1916), both explore an inner journey as an implication of a physical journey. Composers of both poems have effectively articulated this inner self-realisation through a variety of language devices.…
