Mrs. Remington Murder Case Summary
The Murder Mystery of Mrs. Remington

It was an overcast afternoon in Virginia. The police were responding to an alleged murder at the Remington’s Residence. The Abode was a yellow duplex that was not well maintained by either Family. Mrs. Remington, at the age forty-seven, had been discovered dead in her bedroom and was reported by her husband midafternoon on Saturday. After law enforcement secured the premises, a detective was directed toward the scene. Detective Watson and his assistant investigated the alleged murder. The time of her demise was determined to be approximately 3 hours before Mr. Remington contacted authorities. The probable cause seemed to be death by means of strangling and the only evidence found were the marks of the

Silva was their neighbor on the opposite side of the duplex. She told police that Mr. Remington was very short-tempered and had abused his wife in the past, but never had any intentions to kill her. Then she added that she needed an anti-depressant because of him, but once he left the house their neighbor across the street, Mr. Hollow, had arrived at Mrs. Remington’s front door. The reason for the visit was unknown, but it still gave authorities another perspective to the case and one more suspect.
Back at the department, Mr. Hollow willingly went in for questioning. Detective Watson found it very peculiar that he came in for questioning without hesitation. He entered the interrogation room and began immediately.

“Mr. Hollow, I have a witness placing you at the front door just two hours before the victim’s death. Why did you go to her house?” asked Watson.
“I had nothing to do with her death! It was probably her husband, she always told me about the fights he would start.”
“Just answer the question.”
“I was returning some tools that I borrowed from Mr. Remington, but she didn’t answer. I thought they went out because one of the cars was gone.”
“We will determine if your story adds up. I will need the measurements of your hands. There were marks from the hands that strangled

In the process of the arrest of Brenton Butler, there was no extensive investigation done by the police. During the trial, this fact was admitted by the officers when Pat McGuiness, who was representing Brenton, raised the point of them not questioning neighbours, not checking for DNA on the stolen purse etc. When they arrived at the scene, they asked Mr. Stephens to give them a description of the shooter. Mr. Stephens described the shooter to be tall, skinny build, dark shirt and shorts, a fishing hat and black in skin color. Police that were surveying the area saw Brenton Butler, who was at the time walking from his home to Blockbuster to hand out a resume, a thinly framed, tall, male wearing a dark shirt and dark shorts...coincidentally, Brenton Butler was a black male. Officer Williams and Officer Darnell told Brenton there had been a murder nearby and asked him to come with them to ask him some questions about anything he may have seen, which Brenton agreed to. When they brought 15-year-old Brenton Butler to the crime scene, Mr. Stephens immediately identified Brenton as being the…

On January 15, 1947, in a Los Angeles vacant lot, the mutilated body of a woman was found by Betty Bersinger and her 3 year old daughter (Elizabeth Short, Page 2). The victim had been sliced in half, beaten, and her intestines had been removed. The killer also slashed 3 inch gashes into the corners of her mouth, drained her body of blood, cut off her nipples, and put grass up her vagina. Bruising around her wrists and ankles indicated she had been bound with rope and tortured. At the scene, the body was washed clean of evidence and was lying top of dew determining she was killed elsewhere. Her murderer cleaned her body so well you could see the bristle marks from a brush. The only real evidence at the crime scene was a tire track, a bloody heel mark in this tire mark, and there was a paper cement sack with blood on it. The main detectives on the Black Dahlia case were Harry Hansen and Finis Brown. The detectives gathered her…

Merits: The respondent, Daniel Murphy, was convicted by a jury in an Oregon court of the second-degree murder of his wife. The victim died by strangulation in her home in the city of Portland, and abrasions and lacerations were found on her throat. There was no sign of a break-in or robbery. Word of the murder was sent to the estranged husband, Daniel Murphy. Upon receiving the message, Murphy promptly telephoned the Portland police and voluntarily came into Portland for questioning. Shortly after the respondent’s arrival at the station house, where he was met by retained counsel, the police noticed a dark spot on the respondent’s finger. Suspecting that the spot might be dried blood and knowing that evidence of strangulation is often found under the assailant’s fingernails, the police asked Murphy if they could take a sample of scrapings from his fingernails. He refused. Under protest and without a warrant, the police proceeded to take the samples. After this evidence was collected, Murphy was released and was not formally “arrested” until approximately one month later. The samples turned out to contain traces of skin and blood cells, and fabric from the victim’s nightgown. This incriminating evidence was admitted at the trial over defense objections.…
