The Grimm Brothers describe Little Red Cap forcing the wolf “down the roof” with the smell of sausage, and consequentially drowning in the trough (Tatar 16). “Little Dread Riding Hood” portrays that heroic scene by designing a presumably older little red riding hood riding a wolf as though it was a horse. This domestication, or possibly dead body, of the wolf into a play toy demonstrations how little red riding hood matures, and is able to defend herself against the wolf rather than relying on someone else, the huntsman, to save…

The entire atmosphere of this story is dark and gloomy, the specific description of the mood shows Orwell’s hatred towards capital punishment. Orwell creates a gloomy atmosphere to show the nervousness and how no good can come from the approaching hanging. At the start of the story the sun is just rising and is described as a “Sickly light” (Orwell 1), in this context sickly is in reference to something being weak or feeble. The lack of a powerful light source on this particular day shows that there is not much hope for the day going well and by creating a dimmer atmosphere it reinforces Orwell’s argument against capital punishment.…

I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973," Susie Salmon tells us in the second sentence of The Lovely Bones. She shows us who did it—a neighbor everyone thinks is weird—and describes the horrible scene, a brutal assault and dismemberment in an underground hideout in a bleak winter cornfield. Sebold's triumph is in making Susie's voice so immediately compelling that we don't want to let her go, even after she's dead. We want to know what happens next. So does Susie.…

The problem that the world does not understand is: We were not there; who are we to even have a comment about whether George Zimmerman was in the right for killing young Trayvon Martin? Last weekend, Washington Post writer, Gene Weingarten tweeted, “I don’t like George Zimmerman, and he caused this to happen, but from what I read, he will and should walk.” The fact of the matter is, Justin Peters, of the Slate.com blogs, agreed with this opinion in his article, by stating, “I think that they’re right.”…

Edward I. Koch, long active in Democratic politics, was mayor of New York from 1978 to 1989. “Death and Justice: How Capital Punishment Affirms Life” first appeared in the New Republic in 1985, while he was still mayor. The audience of the essay is the people of New York, readers of the New Republic, and anyone who is interested in learning more about capital punishment. In his essay, Koch explains the reasons why he supports capital punishment by examining seven arguments most often heard in opposition. Koch’s third of the seven arguments he made was toward the statement, “An innocent person might be executed by mistake” (485). He argues that without the death penalty, a murderer could be freed from prison and will continue to kill after they…

For Mr. Adamson had turned, and seen what none of the watchers on the hill could see, and he gave a shriek that carried far over the common and lost itself in darkness and distance- a long, long shriek that will never be forgotten by any that heard it. The watchers on the hill watched as the wretched looking beast swallowed Mr. Adamson whole. They sat in awe as they saw the monster approach them. The monster then opened his mouth and ate three of the watchers whole. The other watchers ran for their lives while others flooded 911 with phone calls.…

    Hoodwink Analysis

Red is a daring, adventurous, intelligent, assertive and ambitious young girl who delivers cookies and sweets all on her own throughout the forest. Overall, she is strong, independent and even knows karate and basic self-defence which gives her the ability to defend herself against the wolf that approaches her in the forest. Just like Red, who isn’t like other stereotypical young girls, Granny isn’t like your typical grandmother. She has a tattoo on her neck and lives her life on the edge. Not only does she bake the best cakes in the forest but she also does extreme sports and is independent. Unlike the original story, the Woodcutter isn’t the saviour of this story. Credit for saving little Red actually goes to Granny who saved her from the goodie recipe stealing bunny. The woodcutter just happened to be at the scene when the wolf attacks Granny. This links back into today’s context as this generation is all about the empowerment of women. In society today, women are proving that they aren’t just useful for cooking and cleaning but they can save themselves and can be just as strong as any man. Women can be saviours and heroes who save the world just like any man. As shown in Hoodwinked, men don’t always have to be the strong, manly heroes who save the day. Men can be sensitive and have dreams but that doesn’t make them any less of a man or girly. It makes them who they are. It proves that you don’t have to be put into…

Law enforcement in Pennsylvania has put up a search for a middle-aged man suspected of the murder of a 14-year old girl and the possibility of several others. The young victim’s elbow was found by a neighboring dog as was her hat covered in saliva, which is thought to have been used as a gag. The past murders do not seem to be consistent to one age group and no other patterns have been found. The oldest known victim, Sophie Cichetti, was age 49 at death. She was murdered in her home, however she was left fully intact on a nearby creek side. The murderer is very unpredictable, but organized. He seems to move from place to place after his murders and completely conceals the evidence, which is why he has been hard to catch. Police are hopeful in their current approach now that some connections are being uncovered.…

They claim it is a beast. One night the boys heard the noise in the jungle that frightens them, and decided they wanted to kill the beast for good. The night was dark and stormy, hard to see. The boys gathered in a circle and started chanting, they were preparing to kill. Simon’s tired body limps from out of the jungle. In the dark of night, and loudness of their chants they can’t make out the words Simon tries to get out. With a sudden reflex of fear and terror, the boys throw their weapons at Simon which ends up killing him. With no remorse of what they just did, they try to make sense of the life they just ended. Ralph being the only one who feels bad tries to explain to them what they just did. While this whole situation was an accident, it was manslaughter because a person was killed. The evil inside all the boys took over their bodies and hearts which was shown in them trying to make excuses for the death. While this isn’t an intended murder, nor was it out of hate it was still a murder that was more along the lines of manslaughter. The death was more out of a reflex of fear then it was out of…
