Animal
Name: The Walking Snow Snake

Characteristics: The snake has 8 long legs, which help it walk in snow up to a meter deep. The snake has thermal skin that helps it hibernate and survive in the extreme cold weather. It has white skin to help it camouflage into the snow, so when it attacks its prey, it can creep up and catch it easily. The Walking Snow Snake is extremely poisonous to both other animals and humans, once bitten the snake releases massive amounts of venom that paralyse the victim so it can be easily broken down and eaten.

It can change from silky soft to rock hard at will. Most scientist believe it to do this so that it can swim easier and if predators attack it the snake can turn its skin hard so that it can’t get hurt. When this snake dies however its skin is like is how it will stay till it’s destroyed. This is why some people wants its skin. Some want it for fashionable reasons while others want the hard skin for sharpening knives and other things. The red-sided garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis) are small, nonvenomous snakes from the common garter snake taxon, and are widely distributed throughout north America1. For many animals, reproduction entails substantial behavioural or physiological changes which are directly associated with mating and reproduction. The red-sided garter snake has intrigued scientists and tourists for years and especially in Manitoba, Canada. Once a year in late April, red-sided garter snakes form a large “mating ball” after they have emerged from hibernation. The environmental cues of warmer temperatures after a long period of winter dormancy start the physiological changes associated with cassation of hibernation. They have developed a disassociated…

As before mentioned, the climate in the Intermountain Region varies with elevation and location, in some parts it is cold and wet or dry and hot in winters. Going southward winters are lacking in precipitation and are dry and short. North, precipitation is also scarce but the climate is more moderate with dry, hot summers and moist winters. Also in the north, because the summers are shorter the growing season is shorter as well, which does not help the agriculture industry. As you go farther down the eastern slopes of the mountains, air retains moisture and warms up. The Intermountain…

Northern Arizona has mountains along with snow pacts. Snow pacts are vital to any ecosystem. Snowpack steadily provides water for communities in summer, recharges groundwater systems, coordinates fish migration, and sets paths for streams. In addition, tourism is a vital part of the Northern Arizona economy. Snowy mountains for skiing, high snow lines, long winters, and beautiful snow landscapes are thus important to tourism and the economy. Snowpack sets up the scene for making money in tourism communities. In data accumulated over 75 years by the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service an overall decrease in snowpack and quickened pack melt was shown. (Ffolliott & Gottfreid, 1). This data aligns with other studies in Western states concerning snowpack. Although, this is no new trend. One study estimates that between 1950-1999, 60% of “detrimental” changes in Western US snowpack as well as river flows and winter temperatures were due to human related climate change (Bolin et al., 270). Snowpack melt is attributed to high temperatures which is partially due to an increase in greenhouse gases. Thus, if greenhouse gases continue to be emitted the melting patterns will continue. (Mote et al.) Unfortunately, if these trends continue, there will be serious problems for the economy, ecosystem, and people of Northern…

    Mount Etna

Sicily 's greatest natural attraction is also its highest mountain. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At approximately 3350 meters, it is Europe 's highest active volcano. The height of its summit changes with each eruption, and over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast. Over 1200 square meters of Etna 's surface is covered with solidified lava. Etna offers skiing in the Winter months and breathtaking hikes in the woods during the Summer. There are also a number of smaller peaks on the slopes of Etna, and some interesting caverns. Since Etna is a strato volcano, with relatively cool lava temperatures and numerous openings (vents), nobody ever knows precisely where on its vast surface the next eruption will be. Etna 's long recorded history has proven invaluable to the world 's volcanologists. Mount Etna is said to erupt in a Strombolian style in which the mountain erupts like a fountain from a single vent or crater.…
