Ways That Would Motivate High School Students
In today’s world the average hHigh sSchool student is faced with many challenges in finding ways to keep them motivated to complete their classes successfully. My position regarding the most effective way that I believe will motivate students is, what motivation is and the part it plays when it comes to students. From our assignment reading, “Cyberschools” by (Clifford Stoll, 1950). Students will interact with information infrastructures and data processors. Students will be enriched, empowered, and enabled by the digital classroom; immersed in an optimal learning environment. Cyberschools will create a better learning environment and provide a better education to prepare students to be successful later in life. When doing my research, I found that there are many other schools that practice the same concept as the Cyberschool. At a time when advanced degrees are preferred or required in most fields, Bayside Health Sciences Academy’s Ccoordinator Bonnie Alder says her school 's program motivates students with visions of becoming medical professionals. The 18 participants, however, are anything but routine. The sophomores, juniors and seniors, some as young as 16, attend Bayside High School Health Sciences Academy, a magnet program in Virginia Beach that prepares students for careers in health care. Another program that motivates high school students is the Upward Bound program. The Upward Bound program provides skills and motivation to help students succeed in High School. They help students with academic instruction in courses including mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature and foreign languages. One university that participates in the Upward Bound program is the College of St. Benedicasi. John 's University in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Jennifer Whitehead is the director. "Our goal is to get students successfully through high school and enrolled in college," said Whitehead. "We want to provide them with the tools while they are in our program to then be able to move on to college and be successful." (Elliott, Elizabeth A, Momentum42.4,(Nov/Dec 2011):
