I have competed at state twice and been told by multiple people I always look happy and engaged watching other people's pieces. My great uncle Eddie greatly influenced the person I am now. He was the kindest, compassionate, charismatic, and unconditional loving person I have ever met. He taught me the values of hard work, respect, and a how to be a leader in my own way. No one ever had anything to say bad about him. He was a talented wood carpenter whom always won awards at county fairs. He treated my great aunt like a queen and showed me how I should be treated. My family has grown closer together since his passing causing us to appreciate the time we have on earth. It has been seven months since he passed and not a day goes by I wish to

One obstacle that I have overcome is that of having lived in so many places throughout my childhood. Throughout my young life, I have had to move upwards of five times. This has caused me to have a few friends from my young life that I am still in touch with. Although this has been hard, I have been able to overcome it, and each move has made me more resilient, and made me appreciate my recent life which has had less obstacles that I can't control. Furthermore, I have also had to overcome the roadblock that was having to live through the pandemic.…

Throughout my life I have been faced with many different challenges that has helped me become the person that I am today. My life started out pretty simple. For eight years I was an only child, and viewed by my grandparents as their pride and joy. Then my brother was born, my mom and dad separated, and I started getting into trouble in school, at home and eventually with the law. At this point in my life, I grew up fast and started forming the person that I have become based on my elders and other influential people I was surrounded by.…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

The first would be my administrative tasks as a Resident Assistant. I consistently turned in papers, forms, and completed task on time or before the deadline. This also included emailing and updating my supervisor about any resident conflicts or situations that occurred. I feel that this is an accomplishment because I was able to keep the line of communication open to my supervisor and ensured that all information was given in a timely manner. Another accomplishment I achieved over the past semester was being flexible to my other Resident Assistants. There were many times when last minute another Resident Assistant needed to switch duty days or had an emergency situation and I was able to cover for them. For example, during the semester one Resident Assistant needed to go to the hospital last minute and needed someone to cover. Despite it being last minute and on a Friday night, I was able to take the duty day. This is an accomplishment because I felt like I was a vital member of the team and that people could rely on me to step up to the plate when need…

An athletic challenge I had to overcome in life; breaking my ankle my freshman year of volleyball season. Our volleyball season was going really good. We got a new coach and was rolling. Unfortunately at one of our practice, before the regional tournament, I was hitting and came down and landed on a foot. I knew as soon as I landed it was broke it. The reason this presents a challenge for me, is because I hate to let my teammates down, and this to me felt like a huge let down. I knew the only way I could get through this challenge was to pray. God is the only one who knew why this had to happen to me. The results of this athletic challenge was for myself to realize that stuff happens to everyone, sometimes it being you, so pray and thank God…

A big challenge that I have faced since the day I was born is being Autistic, throughout my life this has affected me, it has affected the way people judge me, what classes I am put in, and of course has affected me mentally, but during around middle school I began to slowly transition out of being ‘blissfully autistic’ and truly began to realize the world around me, though this was followed by a spree of depression due to that.…

The most significant challenge i have faced and slowly starting to overcome is my hearing loss. I have known about my hearing loss for quite a while now but it is still something i am not comfortable with. I have failed to educate people about my hearing loss because i have learned people don't take it as serious and think of it as a joke rather than understanding that it is not something easy to come forward about. People like to say things like “can you hear me” and sometimes like to gather attention by shouting and think it is funny . I refused to wear hearing aids growing up because the society we live in today is all about judging people . I overcame that challenge by not being scared or embarrassed and wearing the hearing aids so i can have a better education. I have slowly started to get over this challenge by not caring about people's opinions so much. I have found that hearing loss is nothing to be ashamed of. It is actually pretty common. It is definitely a challenge but nothing is fun without a challenge.…

My definition of a challenge is a situation that one has to overcome to succeed. They are a task that people have to face every day in order to achieve something greater in life, or even just to get through the day. Through challenges, one is shown his/her strength and capability depending on how one had dealt with the situation. The challenges I’ve faced in my life so far are centered around school and the stress that has been put upon me considering that I’m a senior trying to juggle three AP classes, being an officer of two clubs, spending time with family and friends, and most importantly: completing my college applications. I came face to face with my challenge my junior year after I took my first SAT.…

From 2009 to 2011 I served a full time mission in the Philippines. I served 19 of 24 months in leadership positions, teaching and leading missionaries to succeed. While serving my mission I learned how to relate with people and turn complete strangers in to life-long friends. Aside from the temporal benefits, I matured spiritually in ways that I couldn’t have anywhere else. Serving a full-time mission has taught me what it means to love and serve with no thought of reward. Completing a mission is definitely my most significant achievement to date.…
