Moses: A Study Of Pharoahs
At first glance of the painting on page 186, my eye directly went to the center of the picture as what I presumed as Pharoahs daughter rescuing Moses, who was floating down the Nile. Pharaoh ordered that all male Jewish children would be drowned in the Nile. Moses's mother, Jochebed, placed him in an ark and Pharaohs daughter adopted Moses and raised him.

As you look closer at the picture, I noticed two women holding Moses on the left side of the picture. I believe that this is Moses mother placing him into the river. The picture represents the chronological order of the events that were carried out. The left-hand side took place first and as you glance to the right-hand side, it represents events that took place later on.

“The thirty seven year wait is over, American Pharoah is finally the one, American Pharoah has won The Triple Crown!” The Triple Crown is one of the oldest and most historically valued sports events in America. The Triple Crown takes place as a series of three events including the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. If the same horse wins all three of the races, they are recognized as a triple crown winner. Out of the twelve winners all time, the most significant winner was Secretariat in 1973. He had the most convincing win by more than 20 lengths. Fans adored Secretariat so much that they made a movie about him. His races crown him as the best racehorse in history. The Triple Crown should clash with…

The painting is of a close up scene occurring between two females and a male. Behind the people there are red curtains parting open. It is the only part of the back ground that is visible to the viewer. The rest is in dark shadows, with only the subjects being illuminated. The man is lying on a bed, while the women are standing to either side of him. The point of view for the viewer is as if they are standing behind the bed. Bigot’s painting depicts a scene from the book of Judith in the Catholic Old Testament.…

The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus are at the crux of Christianity. In hind sight what seemed like foolishness to some on lookers has become the wisdom of God triumphing over evil by the death of His Christ Jesus on the cross. Like the stanza of a well known verse, Christ cried out, “God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” This cry from the cross on the day of His crucifixion was not a cry of defeat, on the contrary; it was a cry of victory in the ears of those familiar with the blessed twenty second Psalm written by His very namesake David the king, the priest, the psalmist. Victory…

Joshua is explained as a carpenter, from Bethlehem. Mark 6:3 - Is he not the carpenter,* the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012). He repairs wooden objects and he fixes broken items, and makes toys for the little children. He is also described as a thoughtful and sharing man, who cares about others before himself. In the book it states how he broke a piece of bread, and handed it to a random person who he doesn’t know. Matthew 26:26-While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012.)…

Moses upheld his duties throughout the book of Deuteronomy. It was disheartening that Moses was unable to go to the promised lands with the Israelites. It was also enlightening to watch him listen to God and accept his fate. Moses was a great prophet. He falls short at times, yet he was finally successful in bringing the Israelites to Canaan at the end of this chapter. His love for God prevailed.…

In this essay I am going to explore what happens in the book of Exodus in the Old Testament. I will also go on to further explain why this event is so significant for the Jewish people. This helps to explain why what happened in Exodus is still remembered and celebrated by those of Jewish faith today all over the world and why it is described as the most significant event in Jewish history. In an introduction to Christian theology, Towey discusses the importance of the Exodus “The subsequent account of the Exodus from Egypt by the Hebrews is arguably the focal point of all Jewish history”…

The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…

I am growing tired of these ridiculous threats. I have experienced 9 plagues, from this "I Am", yet the Israelites are still my slaves. When will they accept the fact that they are worshiping a false god? Do they not realize that Moses is nothing but a lunatic who thinks he is talking with a god? I am waiting for Moses to return, any day now, and threaten me with another one of his plagues. Let him try, these plagues are nothing I have not seen before.…

For this essay, I decided to write about Moses from the Bible because I believe he’s the most influential person in history and his story is my favorite of all. His story is inspiring and the way he led the people out of Egypt with the help of God really caught my attention. Another reason why I chose Moses for this essay is because no one on this earth had the privilege to be able to talk to God face to face and that’s really interesting. As well, in our history class, we learned about Hitler and the Holocaust and I was able to make connections with Moses’ story. This is the connection I was able to make: Moses led the people out of slavery in Egypt, but on their way to the the Promised Land, they began to complain and disobey God. Many years…

Many scholars agree that to fully comprehend a text as historical and geographically diverse as the Bible, one must have some knowledge of history and geography. History is the key when reading the Bible. For example, one must understand that although Abraham and Saint Peter are both included in texts in the Bible, they lived thousands of years apart and lived very different lifestyles. The one thing that tends to stay the same throughout the Bible’s history is the strong and willing devotion to God. When reading the Bible, we must learn to mesh into the audience that is being read the numerous stories. For example, some texts were written for former practicing Hebrews while other texts were written for a Gentile audience. Another skill in reading the Bible with history as a key is to understand the customs and habits of the time. This can be clearly seen numerous times in the Bible such as when Sarah, Abraham’s wife, allows him to have intercourse with their handmaid, Hagar. Readers who do not have any idea of customs of the time can interpret instances like this wrong. Moral issues arise, and readers compare what is right and wrong in present-day life to the rights and wrongs in the lives of the patriarchs. Another fact that must be understood is that many times a direct translation of the ancient Greek and Hebrew texts cannot be made, and can create confusion for the reader.…
