Montara Beach Lab Report
Discoveries of sediment at Montara Beach This lab report is on the trip to Montara beach were we studied sediments on the coast line. In figure 1 it shows the location of Montara beach, which is located south of San Francisco near Pacifica. The purpose of the trip was to discover layers of sediment and understand the properties of them, like grain size, composite, organization and so forth. As shown in figure 2 you can see that Montara beach has quaternary sediment, meaning its sediment is younger than what its surround by. This data helps geologist determine how old the rock is and what kind of geological events have occurred to it and near it. The observations of modern processes helps to interrupt ancient events by examining the sediment and looking at the way it was deposited to show where the sediment was once from and what it will from to later on. (Figure1 & 2) Montara beach was cold and slightly windy climate when we arrived, the tide was slightly low and the sand was soft in some spots and stiff in others. The shift changing in the sand was do to the sediment size some were finer size than others causing it to be harder to walk in. Many of the cliffs were made of granite making them igneous. In table one of the lab report the tide level was falling at two fifths making the second the sand that we were observing near the water was …show more content…
As seen in table 4 we can see that the fault is a reverse fault because the plates are exact opposite of each other the are flipped opposite of each other. The north side is moving up while the south side is moving down. An observation made at the fault was that the sediments were weathered and partially covered in mold meaning they were getting moisture and or wet by the tide. The reverse fault occurred to do the compression of the sediment in the fault making the footwall and the reverse and the hanging wall

    The cold pressor test is done by having the subject submerge their hands in a bucket of cold water to determine cardiovascular changes such as blood pressure and heart rate.
