Modern Day Cinderella Story
On a calm first Saturday morning in the month of April, the young high school senior Isabella Bennett arose her from bed with the mindset to achieve one goal this day: to buy the most beautiful and unique prom dress in all of Winchestertonfieldville, Iowa. Two years prior to this general time frame, Isabella and her older sister, Mia Bennett, experienced a tragic incident in which resulted in the lose of their mother. The 40 year old wife and mother of two was driving home on her normal route after working the hospitals night shift in which she would take on three days a week. On this Saturday night, Janette Bennett wore her seatbelt, going the speed limit, when she was struck on the driver’s side door of the car by a drunk driver of 23. As he sped through a red light, accelerating at a speed of 58, Janette was killed only moments after the impact.
Ever since the horrific accident, the two daughters and their father, Mark Bennett, never found a stronger bond and relationship than the one they grew with one another.
Mia did not want to leave her father by himself to raise a high school senior on his own so she attended the neighboring cities University in order to help him for the year. With her being here, Mark was assured that his youngest daughter would also find the most perfect prom dress for her final dance of her high school career.
For the second year in a row, Isabella had been asked by one of her longest, most kind male friends, Ethan. The prom was scheduled for the final Saturday of April, giving Isabella and Mia three weeks to prepare.
When the morning of the anticipated event had finally arrived, Isabella could not be any more excited for her evening in which was to come. Sadly however, she received a phone call around ten that morning from Ethan’s mother. The upset and troubled woman on the phone proclaimed, “Last night Ethan had a terribly high temperature, extraordinary amount of vomiting, and much discomfort. His

Ethan’s First attempt of escape involves his sickly mother. Before Ethan met his wife, Zeena, he felt trapped by his mother and by Starkfield’s emptiness. Ethan had hoped to become an engineer, but despite attending school, his dreams were never fulfilled, because of his mother who had grown sick after his father’s death, and Ethan was left to care for both his mother and his family’s farm. Ethan’s obligation to care for his mother materializes into a hefty, oppressive burden until, Zeena, his cousin, rescues him and substantially lifts his burden off his shoulders. Zeena’s appearance in Ethan’s life saves him, for as she appeares “human speech was heard again in the house” (Wharton, 35). Zeena’s appearance brings life into Ethan’s lonely world. When Ethan’s father died, his mother grew increasingly silent, and rarely spoke. Because of this, he lacked human reaction, and in turn, grew lonely as well. As his mother became more silent, Ethan’s world became emptier and colder. But because of Zeena, Ethan is saved from the cold, lonely silence which imprisons him; Zeena brings warmth into his life once again. The narrator tells his audience, “Zeena’s volubility was music in [Ethan’s] Ears. He felt he might have ‘gone like his mother’ if the sound of a new life had not come to steady him” (Wharton, 35). Had…

Drawing on her many years of psychology training and client therapy, Jacqueline Schectman, director of training for the Jung Institute of Boston, makes a comparison between the four archetypes in Cinderella and the stages of grief families and children she treats in therapy. In her article, she describes a step-mother who, rather than hostile and unfeeling, seems to present a structure and truth to an abandoned little girl; step-sisters who are themselves reeling from unacknowledged grief; and a father who has withdrawn into his own pain resulting from the loss of his wife.…

Films that I particularly favor are thrillers. One reason Thrillers become so enjoyable for me, a sense of diversion is created making the viewers more indulge in the movie all the way to the ending. The plots are usually twisted, climatic, suspenseful and intelligence is often use far as the writing perspective to result in an ecliptic viewing of the movie. A really great thriller will usually bring a shock factor by the climax, then the movie will receive a better understanding from the beginning to end. Another genre of films I enjoy are Musicals they are fashionable and express emotions through singing. I am really into lyricism so I enjoy comparing the actual expression of the each character's individual story and the progression…

The Disney princesses have been a staple in American culture for many generations. From Cinderella to Snow White these princesses have been adapted into different stories, cultures, and forms of art. On March 17, 2017 at Moline High School, I attended the yearly musical, this year being Cinderella. As I entered the auditorium, an usher took my ticket and greeted and told me to enjoy the show, which I appreciated. The auditorium was pretty packed; however, I had gotten a reserved seat. Cinderella, Cherrie Herberg, had a warm and timid personality, which was perfect for Cinderella. She had a few times during her singing parts that could have been stronger, but overall her singing ability shone through. Cinderella really did well with the song…

In Elisabeth Panttaja’s, article Cinderella: Not So Morally Superior the author offers an analysis of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. Panttaja’s analysis may be off-putting to some because she describes Cinderella as being crafty and not a princess who is virtuous or patient. Panttaja claims that Cinderella was not as motherless as it seemed. She does on to say that we cannot assume that just because she is the heroine that she is morally superior to her enemies. This is an example of an over complication, in a simple and beautiful story. Cinderella should be about the triumph of good over evil.…

Looking at the history of Lightner, one might say that luck was not on her side especially where her children were concerned due to the numerous misfortunes they were experiencing. As if that was not enough, Lighter’s 13 year old daughter, Cari, was one day in 1980 walking in her neighborhood in Fair Oaks on her way to church for a carnival (Lerner, 2011). She was suddenly hit from behind by a drunken driver who had apparently momentarily passed out then woke up and drove off after having murdered Cari (Levinson, 2002). Her body had been thrown a number of feet and was so badly damaged that not even her organs could be given up for donation. On conducting an investigation on the driver, it was revealed that the offender was a repeat DWI who had been released on bail for a hit…

In the article “What’s Wrong With Cinderella” written by Peggy Orenstein a feminist mother and writer for the New York Times amongst other newspapers. Several issues and concerns are raised regarding the physical and mental impact that the younger generation might have from the excessiveness of the princess theme toys, clothing and animation. The writer belief that young girls are being influence to think that beauty is determined by their physical appearance. Many parents feel that Disney’s Princesses such as Cinderella and Tinker Bell have become a bad influence upon their little girls. But on the other hand, I believe that this article shows that all of the young generation goes through a phrase of make belief. For example, girls playing princess, Ariel, dress up, and having tea parties; while boys play Power Rangers, Batman, Spiderman, and etc. These are all make believes play practices of children.…
