Mitch Landrieu Speech Analysis
Mitch Landrieu’s speech explains his reasoning for the removal of the sacred Confederate Monuments. Mitch is right in saying something needed to be done about the Confederate Monuments, but there are far more important things that need to be addressed and fixed in the city of New Orleans before removing those statues. The tragedy in South Carolina made Mitch aware that the city of New Orleans still displayed monuments for those who defended slavery. Mitch believes “these monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanitized Confederacy” (Landrieu). Instead of getting rid of the statues completely, he should invest in building a New Orleans History Museum to celebrate our past, as well as the wonderful and diverse culture we come from.
