Miller Secondary Calling
Three things Miller cares about would include: a) The fact that God calls people in three ways: to a relationship with their Creator and to God's people (primary calling), to a mission (secondary calling), and to a world of daily tasks with surprises (immediate calling) (p.38-39), b) the SHAPE acronym and how all of it's elements can provide clues to your life purpose (p.41), and c) Having a mission statement helps us focus our lives in terms of our relationships with friends, family, coworkers and our fellow church goers etc. (p.43)
Problem: " A trap is something deceptive that moves us away from a truly healthy and meaningful life" ( p.34). We sometimes have these lies about ourselves that blocks us from realizing, and seeking our secondary calling; our mission.
The main thesis of this chapter: We should identify our purpose, our secondary calling, which is the call to mission, to be a significant part of God's work in the world, to a meaningful life by making the world a better place (.p.38-39).

Finally, Miller uses information from experts, when he describes the justification for the need of Christians to have a mission statement (p.

The first part of my philosophy of ministry is to teach believers in the knowledge and the ways of Jesus Christ. Every member in the church has gifts. They need to understand their gifts and if you have the gift to teach, be trained in the work of the ministry. Teaching God’s people to do the work of the ministry takes place through the teaching of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17).…

A few main points Miller makes include, nobody will listen to you unless they like you, God will bless you and provide for you for financially serving His kingdom and lastly, how jazz music relates to Christianity.…
