Middle School Student Showcase Case Study
Middle School Student Showcase Planning and preliminary preparations are under way for Candor’s first student showcase for 7th and 8th grader students on May 18th. This event will happen during 9th period so all students will be able to present a piece of excellent work. Beth Gance-Virkler and I have been working with students throughout the year helping them collect samples that they would be proud to display. The biggest challenge is getting 7th and 8th grade students to deeply reflect on their learning because it is a new challenge for many of them. In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision Brown v. Board of Education found that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. Throughout the United States, communities had varying reactions to school desegregation running the gamut from acceptance to resistance. After failing to desegregate on their own, the schools in Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada were compelled by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to act. As a result, they created the Sixth-Grade Center Plan of Integration to desegregate the elementary schools within the district. The plan required children to be bussed to the Westside (the black community) for one year during sixth grade. All other years, the children from the black community were bussed to the white schools. To determine the community perceptions of the school desegregation efforts in Las Vegas data including interview transcripts from local activists, newspaper articles and audio interviews were reviewed.…

I have chosen to present my reflective report using Driscoll’s model (2007) of reflection because it is a developmental model that includes all the core skills of reflection: description, self-awareness, critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis; it consists in three stages in reflecting on one’s practice: ‘what?’ ‘so what?’ ‘now what?’. These trigger questions give a broad and substantial reflective process by challenging a more in depth examination, resulting in an action plan for the future (Bulman & Schutz,…

Part three of the portfolio is about professional responsibility. It focuses on how professionals analyze and reflect on their practice. Teaching is different than most professions in which teachers have no established pathways for a promotion. It is up to the individual to participate in reflective practice, analyzing the good, the bad, and the improvements that can be made for the benefit of the students. Constant self-analysis and self-directed improvement are essential parts of a teacher’s job especially because instruction is going to vary year to year with each new group of students.…

The presentation was a health campaign that I chose to do on kidney disease. My initial idea was to develop materials to communicate relevant context. The underpinning approach taken for my learning event relates to Kolb’s experimental learning cycle. This concrete experience was central to the design of the session and there was also an opportunity for the group to reflect on and share thoughts about their experience. (Reflective observation). This reflection was observed from my peer evaluation form.…

For this assignment the article selected is titled “ Enhancing Critical Reflection of Students During a Clinical Internship Using the Self-S.O.A.P. Note”. In summary, this article's purpose is to describe how journaling techniques can be used for reflection of a physical therapy clinical internship. This article just happens to focus on physiology students. During a six week clinical internship 15 physiology students were told to write reflections of their clinical hours using the Self-S.O.A.P note method. The S.O.A.P method is a acronym for the students. The students were given this guide to follow: “the “S” stands for subjective information which students collected that day/week; “O” stands for a summary of interventions and skills the students performed; “A” stands for self-assessment of their own performance; “P” stands for the plan for improvement, changes, and new challenges the students had” ( Dye 3). This was carried out because many believe that physical therapists or anyone else in the medical field doing professional work needs to develop writing skills in order to be successful. By using this reflection method the students could critically reflect on what they did and what they learned earlier on allowing the students to see the full extent of what had been accomplished.…
