Michael Phelps fans are right to be disappointed in him for smoking marijuana at a party. I am one of his fans, but I am aggravated by his decisions and I think some other people are too. “ Many people are disappointed in Michael’s decisions, Phelps is a role model, he is well aware of the responsibilities and accountability that come with setting a positive example for others, particularly young people,” the USOC said in a statement. “ In this instance, regrettably, he failed to fulfill those responsibilities” they stated. Although he can make his own choices, he must think of his fans and how they think of his despicable behavior. “Who cares, our country puts way too much emphasis on what others do behind closed doors. We all need to be reminded our self that we all make what others may consider as poor choices at some times in our lives, but that doesn’t mean that they are poor choices. He is doing the same thing that most people his age do and it is nothing more than a way of unwinding after a hectic schedule. Some choose to drink; others choose to smoke marijuana to relax. The reality is that nobody was hurt or injured in any way as a result of this. It’s time for everyone to relax and mind their own business.” says a news reporter. Besides everyone can choose what he or she wants to do and how he or she wants to do it. Many people are starting websites to try and say Phelps’s shouldn’t be punished for what he did. Obviously something must have happened at this party, so here is what some of the people at the party said. “At one point someone asked him if he wanted to smoke some weed. Michael didn’t hesitate and headed to a small back room, where he was immediately handed a big red bong. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and ripped a huge smelly bong rip.” an unanimous witness said. He knew what he was doing and I’m sure he has done this before with his friends. I am very disappointed in him and I

Brooks begins by mentioning the health setbacks accompanied with the use of Marijuana by stating that it is addictive in one in six teenagers and that I.Q loss can happen. He then goes on to state his embarrassing moments and how his friends, along with him, came to stop using the drug. It seems as though the author starts off from a logical point of view [LOGOS] and then he begins to play on the emotions [PATHOS] of the readers by using his embarrassing moment to evoke a sense of sympathy. The author’s tone is almost condescending in this article because he implies that if a person smokes pot, they don’t have a bright future ahead of them.…

My views prior to watching this documentary were indifferent. Personally, I do not see the point in smoking pot, but I also believe that people who do smoke it should have that right. People ranging from very young ages to old are getting arrested for many years over a practically harmless hallucinogen. It is their body, and they should be allowed to consume whatever they please. Also, the sole fact that marijuana alone has never killed anybody can be compared to the amount of deaths caused by tobacco, hard drugs, alcohol, or something seemingly harmless, food. It has been said that you would need to take about fifteen hundred joints in about…

Marijuana has been a controversial issue on our society for many years. Although there have been many negative claims regarding its effects on the human body people are learning the truths. Although due to many years of stereotyping people who smoke pot some would rather believe the untruths. There is a skewed perception of what a pot smoker looks like. Such as how they are portrayed in the movie, Reefer Madness. Pot smokers were automatically considered addicts that eventually turned to criminal activities or they took part in some sort of deviant behavior.…

Drug abuse is a major problem in our society as a whole and increasingly within our youth. In recent years, many school districts have implemented student athlete drug testing programs within their schools. Athletes were targeted because student athletics are voluntary and the "athletes are often held to higher standards than other students, keeping their grades up for example" (Tantillo, Wen & Morgo, 1995, p. A22).…

Everyone knows the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol, like any other drug marijuana is an addictive substance. According to an image on SloshSpot, one out of three people at age twelve and older admit to smoking marijuana. All over the United States their are different densities of habitual marijuana users. In today’s society, many ethical concerns arise on a daily basis, especially when it comes to the topic of legalizing marijuana. Many individuals have relied on the fact that marijuana was illegal, when determining whether smoking it should be considered unethical. However, many studies have shown that the effects of marijuana are not as detrimental as they were once made out to be. Legalizing marijuana can be an extremely controversial topic because several people have strong beliefs concerning why it should not be legalized, while a significant amount of people have stronger arguments, as to why it should be legalized. When it comes to looking at the ethical standpoint of legalizing marijuana, everyone has a different interpretation as to why marijuana should or should not be legalized. Michael Phelps is a competitive swimmer, that is mostly know for setting world records for swimming and winning over 20 medals in the Olympics. In November of 2008, he was pictured smoking a bong at a party, at the University of South Carolina. He admitted that the picture was real, and said that he “engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment”. This scandal really hurt Phelps’ ethos, which means his credibility or trustworthiness. Many considered Phelps to be a role model, and believed that it was his responsibility to set a good example for others, obviously Phelps failed to fulfill those responsibilities when that picture of him surfaced.…
