On August 9th, 2014, 18 year old Michael Brown got into a physical confrontation with Officer Darren Wilson. Brown attempted to pull Wilson’s gun out of his holster and shoot Wilson. There was a struggle between Wilson and Brown. In self-defense, Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown. After his death, there was a worldwide outbreak. The town of Ferguson believed that the only reason Brown was killed because he was black, and officer Wilson was white. Each day, the protests would start off peacefully with candlelight vigils and groups of people holding their hands in the air and chanting “Don’t shoot!” as Browns friend told the police during a later interview. As the days went on, the protesters became more and more violent. A vigil broke into …show more content…
Jamyla was lying on her bed doing her homework when a bullet came through her window and killed her. The bullet came from De'Eris Marquan Brown’s gun. In his interview he said that he aimed at the house, not intending for Jamyla to be the target. Jamyla’s mom was also shot, but she is expected to make a full recovery. On the one year anniversary of the Michael Brown shooting, two officers were shot and left in critical condition. One of the officers was shot in the face, barely missing his eye. The other officer was shot in the shoulder. Both of the officers made a full recovery. After the ambush, the governor of Missouri declared a state of emergency. One protester in particular, Michael Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, stood on top of cars parked in the road and was chanting, “Burn this b**** down” referring to burning the town of Ferguson down. That night, more than 20 smaller businesses were burnt to the ground. Protestors defended Head by saying that he was only chanting that out of emotion. The next morning, several business owners had come to their business to find that it had either been burnt to the ground and/or that it was stolen from. The owners were very upset to find that their businesses that they have worked so long and hard to build up and become successful have been looted or burned down because of careless people’s

After two weeks, these riots subdued, but two months later the protests resumed when the grand jury decided not to indict Wilson. Perhaps you should first of all read the evidence presented to the Grand Jury. It doesn't say most of that at all, that's just one particular interpretation of it. The problem is, unlike at a trial, there was no cross examination. In fact, the prosecution didn't ask ONE SINGLE CRITICAL QUESTION in 4 hours of his testimony. You know, such as why On August 15th Wilson and his chief put out a statement saying 'he wasn't aware of any robbery report', and then in his testimony it was all about the robbery report. Or what happened in the 2 hours after Wilson left the scene with his police union rep before being initially questioned and checked over by medics (because that police rep *totally* couldn't have clocked Wilson in the face to bolster his claims after coming up with that story - yeah, completely impossible.…

"Policeman murders young black male, I can't say that I was surprised when I read that headline." He describes how the details change, but ultimately it is the same story. People misperceive blacks, feeling the need to defend themselves and thus escalate the situation far beyond reality. Moreover, Prince EA interjects the pointed reminder that "'protect and serve' refers to us, not you." Officer Wilson describes Brown as a Hulk figure, intensely aggressive, and with a demon-like demeanor. Wilson further dehumanizes him, making Brown out to be like a bull rearing to charge ("Darren Wilson explains"). This prompted Wilson's tunnel vision focus which blinded him to the glaring disparity in strength between a professionally trained officer against an unarmed…

As the mother said in the poem: “O, here’s the shoe my baby wore, But, baby, where are you?” (Randall 8). She had just told her daughter to go to a safe quiet place and that costed her life. After this news, there were all sorts of finger-pointing and negativity. Martin Luther King stated to the governor at the time, George Wallace, “The blood of four little children ... is on your hands,” (Graham). This bombing sparked a racial division that still flows into today. When the news of the Charleston shooting broke, it had people relate right back to the bombing in 1963. This had déjà-vu written all over. Everything from the motive, to the outcome had similarities. Society is so scared to call the shooters motive by how it is; they try to cover up the fact that he was racist. They try to create confusion so there is not uproar of racism because of…

The mayor was informed of threats made to downtown businesses that radical protestors were going to cause devastation to the city and the university. So in order to keep the peace, Satrom requested Governor James A Rhodes to send in the Ohio National Guard. According to Ron Snyder, a National Guardsman who was at Kent State during the lead up to the rally, there was a “Definite lack of control” over the students (Snyder, 2010). However, “Those men weren’t put [there] to kill people. They weren’t brought here to wound and maim, to take life away. They joined the Guard to get out of Viet Nam.” (Anonymous, 2000). Never the less, the guardsmen were still trained like soldiers knowing “Never click the safety off your weapon until you were ready to use it,” stated by Art Krummel, a National Guardsman recounting his experience at Kent State in 1979. (Krummel, 2008). If this is what the guardsmen were taught, then why did they fire into the crowd of protestors on May 4th? This then lead to the conspiracy that there was an order to fire at the ralliers. The authorities claim that there was no order to shoot at the students, however, on May 4th, as the guardsmen were retreating up Blanket hill, a bank near the commons, they all stopped, turned in unison, and fired at the protestors. It’s this action that lead people to…
