Meriwether's Gentlemanly Qualities

Some of Meriwether’s “gentlemanly” qualities would be that he is very well groomed, generous, and humorous man. He also believes him to be very sincere to the people amongst him. In a way I do admire Meriwether because it mentions how is a very likeable man to everyone. Although, he is already a rich man and could be in greater positions; he does not try to pursue more than that because he is satisfied with what he already has.

The point Agee is trying to make by describing his experience with the bedbugs is that despite the uncomfortable night, he still felt somewhat of pleasure being there. His final solution was for him to just lay in bed and pretend to be asleep. In other words, Agee was also describing how the sharecroppers are
