Mentor Report Example
It is my great pleasure to nominate Dr. Bernhard Luscher, Professor of Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and Psychiatry for the Howard B. Palmer Mentoring Award. As the director of Center of Molecular Investigation of Neurological Disorders (CMIND), Dr. Luscher has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and effectiveness as a mentor, with persistent effort to provide mentoring of many graduate students and junior faculty members.

Dr. Luscher was always willing to share his experience and knowledge of teaching related information. Long before my class begins, he has invited me to visit his class when he was teaching BIOL 469 (Neurobiology) with over a hundred undergraduate students. There I got the first-hand experience on how to organize lectures and handle students’ questions. After I started my course, he continued to provide me various professional resources, opportunities, and networks to help me improve teaching skill. Particularly, whenever I have difficult situations to deal with, I always came to discuss with him and every time he provided me useful suggestions to solve these teaching related problems.

The grant application could be a painful process for junior faculty. Since my first grant application at PSU, I have received subcutaneous support from Dr. Luscher. Starting from crafting, polishing, all the way to final submission, Dr. Luscher gave me many advices on how to put the grant logically, pointed out the weaknesses in my grant, and helped me understand the meaning of reviewers’ comments. Most importantly, when I was sad on the rejection of my grant applications, he was there to provide emotional support and encouragement through continuous counseling and

When my grand-uncle died, hundreds of people came to his funeral. Many were former patients; they spoke of how gracious my grand-uncle was. He changed the lives of many people by caring for those who could not afford healthcare. Before I die, I want to better the lives of as many people possible by developing cheap and accessible treatments. HLI’s Student Week provides the chance to utilize theoretical knowledge from scientific articles, AP sciences, and independent studies in practical application. Since the field I am passionate about pursuing is pathology, HLI’s focus on life sciences at a molecular level would be the most beneficial program for me as I would be learning how medical professionals research in a laboratory. From the skills…

Earlier this semester I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Kahn, and asked him some questions. I was interested in asking him questions because I had admired him as a teacher, and a person throughout the semester. I had never met someone who appeared as intelligent as Dr. Kahn, but was also down to earth. In class he spoke in a way that was easy to understand, he also accepted, and answered our questions no matter how ignorant, or insignificant.…

    1. Why are you interested in serving as a peer mentor again? I am interested in serving as a peer mentor again next year because of the experiences and opportunities that I have had so far. Looking back on my experiences in Econ 110, I appreciated the guidance I received from the class and from my peer mentors. I am excited to continue to help the incoming freshman class adjust to college by preparing them for life as an Agricultural Business student. More specifically preparing them for the CALS career fair, working with each student of their four-year plans, and being available for any questions they may have.…
