Mellie: A Short Story
To everyone's surprise, Vargas is the winner. The camera pans to a shocked Mellie...Her face goes white, you can see the thoughts race through her mind. She clenches her hands and immediately suggests fraud or voter tampering; Mellie announces the race is far from over.
Moments later, a panicking Olivia is in the corner curled up against the wall as Fitz walks up and attempts to console her. Olivia pulls herself together just in time to find a frantic Mellie ranting on about laws in counties and demanding recounts nationwide. Olivia tries to convince her it is time to concede to Vargas before she is labeled a “bitch.” At first, she does not understand, but as Olivia raises her voice it starts to sink in for Mellie that she has lost the race. Once again, Mellie’s face goes pasty white. Olivia pulls out her phone and dials Vargas for the paralyzed Mellie; she then hands the phone to Mellie but she is speechless. Olivia quickly starts writing out notecards to help Mellie gracefully concede the election to Vargas.

Together, they both sip wine straight from the bottle. Olivia apologizes to Mellie for losing the election, but Mellie counters by thanking her for her all the work she’s done. It is a rather ironic yet tender moment seeing as how they previously hated each other; Olivia slept with her husband and Mellie attempted to destroy her multiple times, but in this moment they are just two women fighting for a place in a man’s world. They both gravel how the worst part of Mellie losing is that Cyrus Beene will be the new Vice President...Just then, they are both startled by jarring screaming coming from the other room...They both run to the other room...The TV shows video of Vargas being shot on replay. The camera cuts to Olivia who looks shocked and suspicious as if she knows who did it, just as the show cuts to a commercial for extra shock and

The audience members all waited for someone to say something, anyone. But no one did. Finally, I ran over to Griffin surrounded by a pool of blood, and put my ear by Griffin’s heart to see if it was beating. It wasn’t, it was dead, he had flatlined, like the rest of the people mentally, who couldn’t believe their eyes. Finally, after it seemed like forever, I looked around and screamed call 911. Elisha the young woman in the front row got out her phone and called. We could all hear her describing what had happened as calmly as she could. Five minutes later we all heard a siren, everyone looked around at each other. Then we heard hurried footsteps in the hall scurrying it was the EMT. But right as they got to the door to the audience they knocked. Everyone in the room sat still. Finally, Lorelai got up to open the door and it was locked, she tried the others and locked, they were all locked. At that very moment she fainted due to knowing that she was a witness of murder, one of the many other’s in the room.…
