Case Diagnosis Neck pain can have multiple causes. One potential cause of this female’s neck pain with a headache could be a suboccipital headache (Hauser). A suboccipital headache is tenderness in the four occipital muscles: rectus capitis posterior major, rectus capitis posterior minor, obliquus capitis inferior, and obliquus capitis superior. The main diagnostic test for neck pain is an X-ray. By getting an X-ray, the physician will have an image of the bones to identify possible fractures along the vertebrae. When taking an X-ray the physician will look at the lateral view of the cervical spine(“Trauma X-ray”). When taking an X-ray of the lateral view, the physician is obtaining an

    IW reports constant neck pain as aching with exacerbations and radiation to bilateral shoulders/upper extremities. IW notes intermittent numbness and tingling to bilateral hands/fingers.
