Mean Girls Film Analysis

Teen films and TV shows often follow same the conventions though depicting a popular girl who breaks up with a jock, which flows the jock falling in love with the outsider. In this genre the shows and movies shallow but they are a genre which teenagers can relate to. The movie Mean Girls, and the television shows Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill, all follow the conventions of the teen genre while reflecting situations which teenagers face on a regular basis. Although teen movies and TV shows follow the set conventions of stereotypical teenagers, the movies and shows do reflect the real dilemmas and situations which teens face. While the the iconic teen film, Mean Girls, is a dramatization of high school stereotypes some of the story lines reflect reality. Caddy is a girl who moved from Africa and is attending high school for the first time after years of home school. What makes her an outsider is her lack of knowledge about the inner workings of high school. She is oblivious to the plastics manipulation of her, brings brown bag lunches to school which she eats in the bathroom, and does not dress according to norms of high school students. She wears baggy and to the halloween she wears a scary costume instead of sexy lingerie like the rest of the girls. She depicts the realities of a girl trying to fit in. After Caddy is invited to join the plastics for lunch she becomes a mean girl due to the pressures she feels to fit in. After becoming part of the plastics she becomes just as bad as Regina George, by she failing a test to impress a guy and giving her spreading lies. It is only after getting into trouble for having a party to impress her popular friends does she come the realization that she has more in common with the mathletes than the mean
