The Rebellions of 1837/1838 in both Upper Canada and Lower Canada were attempts and attacks at their current government for various reasons. The rebellions in Upper Canada were to bring about an American style democracy, while the rebellions in Lower Canada were largely due to discrimination against the French, unequal taxation, and lack of power within the government to bring about any reformation. In the end, the rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada had a profound impact on the future of the British coloniesTo an extent, the rebellions in both Upper and Lower Canada did not have much of profound impact on any British colonies immediately, especially as hoped. To begin with, the rebellion in Upper Canada failed miserably because of the lack…

The Selma-to-Montgomery March for voting rights ended three weeks--and three events--that represented the political and emotional peak of the modern civil rights movement. On "Bloody Sunday," March 7, 1965, some 600 civil rights marchers headed east out of Selma on U.S. Route 80. They got only as far as the Edmund Pettus Bridge six blocks away, where state and local lawmen attacked them with Billy clubs and tear gas and drove them back into Selma. Two days later on March 9, Martin Luther King, Jr., led a "symbolic" march to the bridge. Then civil rights leaders sought court protection for a third, full-scale march from Selma to the state capitol in Montgomery. Federal District Court Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr., weighed the right of mobility against the right to march and ruled in favor of the demonstrators. "The law is clear that the right to petition one's government for the redress of grievances may be exercised in large groups...," said Judge Johnson, "and these rights may be exercised by marching, even along public highways." On Sunday, March 21, about 3,200 marchers set out for Montgomery, walking 12 miles a day and sleeping in fields. By the time they reached the capitol on Thursday, March 25, they were 25,000-strong. Less than five months after the last of the three marches, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965--the best…

The phrase bloody sunday is used all across the world on some sundays where people have a unwanted project, or an important dead line the next day. It is the dreaded cram sessions that no one looks forward to. But where did the phrase “bloody sunday” originate from? The first Bloody Sunday took place in Russia 1905. The Russian people worked in horribly unsafe factories, the country entered an unnecessary war and was losing it, and the government was corrupt. When new leadership came into play, one may think that things are bound to get better, but in the case of Russia, things just got worse. So the people of Russia did the only thing they thought would get attention; a peaceful protest where they would make demands to better the Russian…

On April 12, 1861, the Confederacy declared war against the Union because both the South and the North had different outtakes on U.S problems. The Civil War began in 1861 and ended in 1865, but along the way it caused lots of geographic changes. Although it ended four years later, many problems damaged both sides of the United States, especially the South. Southern women faced starvation and poverty when their husbands and sons, who took care of the farms, went away to war. In the South, there were many riots by women demanding for supplies to provide for their families during this time. The Union would often steal crops and livestock from the South, causing the Southerners to have no food to give to their families.…

An example of this is from an ESPN report, “......physicians and other medical professionals frequently refuse to treat gays and lesbians, according to the DRL report,” (Munson). Not only the health system, but also attorneys are siding with the ant-gay laws. They refuse to help any LGBT community member and will probably excuse everything that an LGBT would say. Dmitry Bartenev, an attorney and law professor in St. Petersburg warns all LGBT communities that their lives won't get any easier because of President Putin's view about LGBT. Munson states, “Russian courts at all levels have supported anti-gay laws and prohibitions and would provide no refuge for anyone who is arrested.(The Constitutional Court [Russia's highest tribunal] has rejected all attacks on these laws and is not concerned with any suppression of gay rights,” (Munson) Munson depicts that the LGBT is not only being picked on in the streets, but are also being limited by highter ranking jobs and prevents LGBT people from protecting themselves in court.
