Max Vandenberg Character Analysis

While engaging in this novel, the readers have seen characters come and leave with mentions of them being less significant the further being delved into the novel. Halfway through the book, there is a considerable amount of key characters that allow the plot to thicken and grow. Of course we have our leading character Liesel Meminger, she is a sprightly young girl with passion and is a bit stubborn, ““There’s no way he can beat me, she thought. She nodded seriously. This was business. “You can kiss me if you win. But if I win, I get out of being goalie at soccer.”” Her character is believable for a young girl, who can come off as a bit rebellious while simultaneously stand-offish due to her family troubles.
Connecting to Liesel is an effortless feat with her personality and how she faces others, “”The girl cleared
Most authors put intense thinking to creating each and every character; including minor characters. These characters are just as important to the plot as the main characters. They help move the story along, by using their lives as either a lesson or challenge to show the main characters. A character that is like that is Max Vandenburg. A jew that stows away in the Hubermann’s basement. From where I am currently in the book, Max comes off as a temporary character, but one with significance. He shows Liesel strength, and gratitude, although her life may not be perfect, it still isn’t the worst she could get, “”You could argue that Liesel Meminger had it easy. She did have it easy compared to Max Vandenburg. Certainly, her brother practically died in her arms. Her mother abandoned her.”” His archetype is similar to the lost soul, a sensitive being that is tortured and outcasted by society. Each character belongs to different hierarchies of significance to the plot, but they hold an important role that creates or furthers the
