The Mariana Trench What is the deepest place on Earth? The Mariana Trench of course. The Mariana trench is the deepest and most unknown place on Earth. The trench is 36,201 feet deep, which is very surprising compared to the average depth of an underwater trench, which is 12,200 feet deep. Many oceanographers are fascinated by the trench and have attempted dives to go to the bottom. In 1960 the U.S. Navy sent two divers in a manned vehicle to daringly dive deep into the trench. The trip took five long cold hours to reach the very bottom of the Mariana Trench. The world’s Deepest trench is not your average 12,000-foot deep hole.
