“Ever since my youth I have been engaged in the examination of insects… I set aside my social life and devoted all my time to these observations and improving my abilities in the art of painting so that I could both draw individual specimens and paint them in lively colors.” -Maria Sibylla Merian (Maggs) Maria Sibylla Merian had a strong sense of adventure and curiosity. She explored and observed new things. She studied and illustrated plants, insects, and reptiles. She was taught to paint from her stepfather. As a result, she caused other scientists of her time to study insects and metamorphosis like she had. Lastly, she inspired google to feature her 366th birthday as their Google Doodle for the day. Her studies stood out because she was a woman. …show more content…
In fact, she learned her skills through very humble beginnings. When her father died her mother got re-married to the famous painter, Jacob Marrel. At a very young age, Maria’s stepfather spent hours with her teaching her to paint. She enjoyed it very much and used her talent to her advantage by painting her insects. She never went to college because by the time she was 14 she left home to study with two famous artists. Throughout her whole life, you could find her with other artists learning and sharing their drawings and ideas (Maria Sibylla Merian Facts). This benefited her because she was able to learn new painting techniques and knowledge about her studies. unlike most scientist and artists she wasn't inspired by other’s work but by her own surroundings. She used her talented painting skills to paint what she loved: insects and plants. The human that had the biggest impact on her work was her stepfather because he taught her how to paint (Swaby). Maria was an amazing artist even though she did not go to school. She did amazing artwork and shared it with others. She enjoyed it because she could paint what she loved and found
