Malvolio In Shakespeare's Twelfth Night
In modern day, it is almost impossible to find someone without social media. It connects friends, business, and even family. During Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, twitter and facebook did not exist. What would happen if did? Our group was assigned to create social media for characters in the story. When developing the project, we thought about each character relationships and behavior. Ultimately, to create an accurate Yahoo Answers account.
Malvolio-- a character involved in a subplot to the Viola-Olivia-Orsino- love triangle-- would probably write a post about his time behind bars. The setting is Olivia’s dungeon, and broken-hearted Malvolio sought for aid. Ultimately, he resorted to Yahoo Answers where all his troubles will be resolved. Malvolio has always been an extravagant character. He even called himself “Count Malvolio” because he positive he was going to marry

Sebastian-- who was saved by Antonio-- was in search of his sister. Our group assumed Sebastian would have written a post asking for help. Especially, since he did not want to burden anyone. Antonio, on the other hand, wanted to provide Sebastian with help. This is made clear when Antonio said, “If you will not murder me for my love, let me be your servant” (Shakespeare II. I. 2). We thought he would have anonymously give Sebastian help if he stumbled upon the post, hence his username.
Lastly, Sir Toby-- a selfish and manipulative alcoholic-- would most likely have provided opinions prone to his own needs. An example is the when he persuaded Sir Andrew not give up on Olivia. Little did Sir Andrew know, Sir Toby actually used him for money. The scene we decided on presenting was the act filled with marriages. Although throughout the text, Sir Toby hinted at Maria stating, “Look, where the youngest wren of nine comes” (Shakespeare III. II. 3). It gave an inkling that Sir Toby might’ve actually loved Maria. In our post, Maria asked what she should

Malvolio may deserve his come-uppance, but there is an uncomfortable universality to his experience. Malvolio’s misfortune is a cautionary tale of ambition overcoming good sense, and the audience winces at the way he adapts every event—including Olivia’s confused assumption that he must be mad—to fit his rosy picture of his glorious future as a nobleman. Earlier, he embodies stiff joylessness; now he is joyful, but in pursuit of a dream that everyone, except him, knows is false. I feel that his punishment may have gone a bit too far as most people can see. There is a difference between making a fool of someone and locking him or her up for life. He may have been a spoil sport and intolerant towards Sir Toby’s, Sir Andrew’s and Maria’s fun but they took a bit too far. He was only doing his…

David Silver in Twitter Meets the Breakfast Club, explains different ways how twitter and social media are great ways to keep in touch with classmates and students as a professor at a school. According to David Silver, he used to warn his students to “Be, Careful” in the mid 1990’s warning students what they put on the world wide web is public, until his mind set changed when he started a twitter assignment with a class on history of television cooking shows called “Green-Media” (498). David Silver’s had students join twitter for many good reasons, one being that “Twitter accounts are public, for their professor, their classmates, and the larger twitter community to access their work” (Silver 498). This means that the class can easily interact…

Antonio is completely left out of this narrative. To an even greater extent, Antonio is not even recognized by Sebastian after being married to Olivia. However, Sebastian did show concern for the servant by stating, “How have the hours racked and tortured me / Since I have lost thee” before him and Olivia officially are wedded (5.1.216-217). Despite showing concern, Antonio does not end up or remain in a meaningful relationship (both in a romantic and a platonic sense). Antonio’s friendship with Sebastian has been taken away because he has been reunited with his sister and now has a new lover. The alienation towards Antonio in the play is unjust because the new world that is formed at the end of the play seems to discredit his loyalty as a bad…

Social media has changed throughout the course of history. Tom Standage’s book, “Writing on the Wall: Social Media - The First Two Thousand Years”, shows the evolution of social media. Throughout the book, he takes on many different perspectives that help fit the topic with his own definition of social media: “an environment in which information was passed from one person to another along social connections, to create a distributed discussion or community” (3). The chapter that least fits his definition in “Writing on the Wall: Social Media - The First Two Thousand Years” is chapter five, “Let Truth And Falsehood Grapple: The Challenges of Regulating Social Media”. The chapter that most fits the definition is chapter one, “The Ancient Foundations…

Antonio is very pious because his mother values religion. The deaths in the novel cause Antonio to question God and if He is really good. Antonio contemplates, “He created you. He could strike you dead. God moved the hands that killed Lupito” (Anaya 47). Antonio’s inner struggles first start when Lupito is killed by the men on the bridge. Antonio begins to expect that his innocence is lost after witnessing such awful things. These deaths and events Antonio has to endure force him to mature. He thinks to himself, “My father had tried to keep his land holy and pure, but perhaps it was impossible. Perhaps the llano was like me, as I grew the innocence was gone, and so too the land changed” (Anaya 176). Antonio feels that since he lost his innocence, he is no longer the same person. Unwillingly, Antonio is forced to grow up fast in the events leading up to Florence’s death. When Narciso is killed, Antonio has to act extremely brave in the face of danger and pray for his friend’s soul. He thinks, “I knew what I had to pray. I had to pray an Act of Contrition for his departing soul, like I prayed for Lupito. But I had not held Lupito while his body went cold. I had not bloodied my hands with his life’s…

A majority of college students engage in social networks such as Twitter and Facebook for educational benefits and entertainment. Twitter and Facebook usefulness depends on how the user engages in these social networks. Twitter is known for sharing information with other individuals who share the same interest, and a “growing number of professors are embracing it as away to introduce students to a different kind of communication” (Miners, 2009). Professors also realized that communicating through Twitter keeps students engaged in course content in and outside the university, and keeps them current with real world event alerts or issues that are relevant to the course. No one is ever too old or experienced to still learn in today’s society and professors even use Twitter to find answers to teaching…

In The Twitter Trap, Bill Keller argues that these new forms of media are “eroding characteristics that are essentially human: our ability to reflect, our pursuit of meaning, genuine empathy, and a sense of community.” He sees social media as aggressive distractions an attempt of contemplation. In many ways he may be right, but technology has a lot of benefits as well. Although advances in technology threaten the way we absorb and understand information, we must learn to incorporate the changes and use them to our advantage.…

For this scene I chose the song “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. I chose this song because it talks about how when you need a friend during bad times in your life to help you, they’ll be there. A quotation from the song that proves this is: ”Lean on me, when you're not strong And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on.” this connects to the scene because Sebastian needed someone to be there for him to help him in his time of need and sorrow. Antonio offers to help Sebastian even though he might be in danger if he goes back to Orsino’s court. This shows true friendship and the dedication Antonio has to Sebastian. A quotation in the play that proves all of this is: “Else would I very shortly see thee there. But, come what may,…
