Today, with the continual and rapidly growing need of energy demand by big nations like United States and China continuing to furnish their domestic consumptions of oil have led to increased prices of gasoline whereby alternative forms of energy production are sought. With this in mind, offshore drilling can be a viable option for satiating the need of oil and also to boost the economy of the nation. In this report, I am going to discuss how the current Deepwater Horizon rig explosion has led to disastrous oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico causing environmental problems and also discuss how the oil spill if resolved and with safe and secure drilling techniques, the economic impact of offshore drilling can outweigh the environmental issues.…

One of the industries in Canada that faces scrutiny for environmental issues is the Alberta Oilsands. The four major players of the Oilsands, Suncor, Shell, Cenovus and Canadian Natural Resources have been the key leaders in the development of the Oilsands in Alberta. They have also been a huge part of the Government of Alberta’s Plan for Climate Change. “Industry has seen results from working together,” said Murray Edwards, Chairman, Canadian Natural. “This announcement removes barriers for collaboration with a broader group of stakeholders. We are all now working together to realize the full value provided by the oil and natural gas industry, including jobs, economic benefits and government revenues…

It is now popular to be environmentally conscious in American society. It is completely acknowledged by the populace that oil will, indeed, run out within a lifetime, leaving a demand for a different kind of energy source. Hybrid cars, such as the Prius are now mainstream, recycling is day-to-day, finding organic fruits, vegetables, and meat is as easy as walking to the nearest grocery store, and using plastic bags has been deemed unacceptable. Global warming, while debated and questioned by conservative policymakers has generally been accepted as fact by the population. With any movement, fad, or great change, a great number of people –including corporate media -- want to jump on board the Green Revolution. This is a money making opportunity, and while some companies have good and progressive intentions, there are many that do not. Americans are being purposefully mislead and lied to by corporations that use the false advertising method of Greenwashing.…

    Should Oil Be Restricted?

The use of oil should defiantly be heavily restricted and invested as sustainable energy. Not only for our sake but for the future generations all over the world. The following facts will support my idea that planning for a future without oil should be supported. These are: it would be much better if we slowly run out of oil, rather than having none all of a sudden, preparing for a world without oil is easily done, than frantically running out, and the impact of having no oil left on our stock market.…

There have been numerous oil spills all over the world including the United States, Nigeria, and China and are threats of more occurring. There have been several oil spills to occur in the United States but two of the most well known major oil spills in happen here are the Exxon oil spill and the British Petroleum Deepwater Horizon oil spill. In March of 1989 an oil tanker called Exxon Valdez created a massive oil spill after running into a reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska (Fontugne 2015). Over eleven million gallons of crude oil was poured into Alaskan waters. Due to increased fossil fuel exploration, such as fracking, in various places near Arctic waters, including Alaska, there is now an even larger risk of potential oil spills happening there (National Research Council (U.S.) 2014). The National Research Council claims that if there were to be an oil spill in U.S. Arctic waters the U.S. would not be prepared for it. The British Petroleum Deepwater Horizon oil spill happened in on April 20, 2010 resulting after a drilling rig located in the Gulf of Mexico experienced an explosion. The event caused the death of eleven workers and around 4.9 million barrels of crude oil to be sent into the Gulf of Mexico (Wilson 2014). Niger Delta, Nigeria experiences approximately “240,000 barrels of crude oil” being poured into it every year (Ordinioha and Brisibe 2013). This has caused major health complications to those…
