The Newfoundland railway operated for a little over a century. From 1882-97 the trains ran over completed portions of a projected trans-insular line. The first passenger train across the island ran in June 1898. Regular passenger service ceased in July 1969, and the last freight ran in June 1988. The railbed has since been designated a "T'railway" and a linear provincial park.…

Train industry was one of the most important industries in the modern human culture since it was a very useful way to transport goods and people, which was the concern of many scientists in the last 2000 years. Matthew Murray and George Stephenson made great contributions in the train industry. Matthew invented the first steam powered locomotive train while George came up with the idea of coal transporting trains. Old trains were depending on steam for power. In 1829, the Rocket was the first steam locomotive train built and it carried passengers between Liverpool and Manchester in England. In 1940s, another steam train was built but with very strong engines that it could pull freight trains with hundreds of cars of cargo across the United…

Magnetic levitation has been around for years, this advance mode of surface high speed transportation whereby a vehicle gliding above a guide way is suspended, guided, and propelled by magnetic forces that actually allows it to float in air 4 to 6 inches in the air and travels up to 300 mph. Despite the Shinkansen’s many advantages it is not with its faults.…

Throughout the generations America has transformed and evolved drastically to become the nation it is today. Many can argue that several things have happened in America that are what shaped it to the country it is today industrially, socially and economically. A man by the name of Charles brace had a dream of getting underprivileged children off the streets and gave them the tools and opportunities to live great normal lives. Between 1854- 1929 an estimated 200,000 American children, some orphaned or half-orphaned, others abandoned- but all in need of families- traveled west by rail as part of a “placing out” program started by Charles, called the Children’s Aid Society.(Warren, 4) This dream exploded around the U.S into what is now known as The Orphan Train Movement; a movement that sparked opportunity and new life for underprivileged children.…

My herd has left me behind. I do not know why all I remember was the taste of the yummy tuft of grass I was eating. I roamed all around and not a single thing was around me. As I wandered around, I heard loud noises and my curiosity led me closer. I stumbled upon some tracks then suddenly the earth started shaking. I turned around and saw a big fat train going full speed at me! I dodged out of the way with my super speedy reflexes. The train went by me and all I saw were the hopeful faces of young settlers transporting their needy goods. I had heard from my old buffalo friend, Jimmy that they slaughtered his aunt by the railroad. They used her for her furry skin and tusk what a tragedy. I was lucky enough to survive that ferocious train. However,…

In this quickly developing world, transportation is becoming bigger and bigger an issue. Therefore, it is only natural that demands for it are growing rapidly. To meet this demand, yet another form of transportation has been introduced: the Maglev train. Maglev, derived from the term magnetic levitation, is a method of propulsion that uses magnetic levitation to propel vehicles with electromagnets rather than with wheels, which causes friction and can wear out the rails. With maglev, a vehicle is levitated a short distance away from a guide way using magnets to create a lift, using the push of the same polarities of an electromagnet. Many scientists foresee “high-speed maglev trains creating dramatic improvements for human travel, if the widespread adoption of its system occurs.”(Wikipedia “Maglev”)…

Throughout the ages, evolution has taken place with every aspect of our life, including transportation. Historically, humans did not have the proper technology to move from place to place easily. However, the present has come depending mostly on electronics and technological items such as cars and airplanes for movement. Unfortunately, the increase in overpopulation has led to different issues concerning transportation that may cause pollution and insecurity. Humans need speed with transportation methods to prove efficiency, which leaved the safe steady methods unused. Many people have worked on inventing a transportation method that is economically friendly, fast and safe, which was the start of the outbreak of maglev trains; trains that are levitated from the ground with the use of electromagnetism. This whole idea was mostly based on electromagnetic induction and creation of a current. Such trains are safe when even going to a speed of 400 miles per hour, leaving our transportation issues solved.…
