Macbeth The Power Of Words

In Latin, a person is directly translated to "being of sound". Humans are greatly influenced by words, whether they are spoken, written or even in thought. The power of words can be accurately described with a quote from Proverbs 18:21 "words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit". In my essay, the various roles of words are shown, among which are to praise, manipulate, mislead, educate, soothe, bind, save or kill. The impact of words can either transform for good, for bad or sometimes from one to the other.

Through the year, the literary works we covered proved to be very good examples of this statement. Macbeth, The Book Thief, Dead Poet's Society, Purple Hibiscus and the three short stories namely the Man from the South, the Gift of the Magi and the Last Night of the World all provide excellent examples of the power of words.
King Duncan refers to Macbeth as "Brave Macbeth" and "worthy cousin". Ross calls him "Bellona's bride groom". These words are initially good, as Macbeth is worthy of their praise. However, they soon become bad, as they coax him into being greedy and arrogant in his search for greater power for which he does not deserve.
