Ambition can be an amazing driving force that pushes you to accomplish your goals in life. However, it can also cause one's downfall if they choose to ignore their conscience and let their strongest desires cloud their judgment. For instance, in the play Macbeth, Macbeth allowed his thirst for power to get in the way of his morality. He had given into his wife’s tempting words and betrayed those who trusted him, those who loved and valued his bravery and friendship. However, Macbeth had done this at a very high cost, something that would come back to haunt him. Macbeth lost his sense of humanity to the point where he murdered anyone that was suspicious of his actions or came in his way.Macbeth first murdered the king, the same man who praised…

Ambition is the trail to treachery. In the interchange between Macbeth and his lady, in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Act 2. 2. 1-95), their combined aspiration of becoming the uppermost royalty leads to a disloyal scheme, regarding Duncan’s death. Promoting her sinful ideas, she continues to tease the hopeful future, employing Macbeth’s interest in the plot through her cajoling and manipulation. Without these ambitions, an unlawful ruse of such extremities could never be entirely motivated.…

“The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step on which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see.” During Act 1 Scene 4, Macbeth describes his ambition as “black and deep desires.” He expresses the terrible desires that come across his mind. Macbeth is so caught up in his ambition, where he is willing to do anything that he desires and feel is appropriate. Macbeth's Ambition

The thematic importance of ambition is revealed throughout MacBeth in a manner that is not always instantly visually evident to a conscientious reader. Although it is responsible for MacBeth's rise to power, his "vaulting ambition" is also to blame for MacBeth's tragic downfall. MacBeth would not have been able to achieve his power as King of Scotland, or have been able to carry out his evil deeds, if it was not for his ambition. In these instances, ambition helped MacBeth achieve his goals to a certain subdued degree. Consequently, however, MacBeth's ambition has another face and is what leads him to his disastrous fall from grace. Had he not been fixated with becoming King and remaining powerful, he would not have continued to kill innocent people in order to keep his position. In due course, MacBeth's removal from power is attributable to these killings, along with his over bearing attitude.…

An ambition is an eager or strong desire to achieve something, such as fame or power. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, ambition is presented throughout the play as a dangerous quality that influences the two main characters, Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth, to use violence in their pursuit for power. Macbeth is a brave and loyal Scottish general, who is not naturally likely to carry out malicious acts. However Macbeth is driven by evil thoughts when three witches prophesized that he will become thane of Cawdor and then King of Scotland. To the contrary, Lady Macbeth is a woman of great determination who desires for power and position. By using her skills of persuasion to awaken her husband’s ambition, Lady Macbeth succeeds in convincing Macbeth to kill King Duncan. Therefore the prophecy and Lady Macbeth act as the main driving forces of ambition which eventually causes the deterioration of both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth herself.…
