Each family has a socioeconomic status that is based on family income, parental education level, occupation and social status in the community. Families with low socioeconomic status often lack in their financial, education and social supports that families with high socioeconomic status don’t lack. Usually poor families have inadequate or limited access to community resources…
Immigrants suffered a lot during this period, plus they were living in a very filthy condition. After 1865, American urban communities developed at a phenomenal rate, and urban populaces swelled with specialists from provincial regions and abroad. To move expanding populaces around the city, urban communities spearheaded imaginative types of mass travel. High rises came to check urban horizons, and new electric lighting frameworks energized nightlife. Neighborhoods partitioned along class and ethnic lines, with the regular workers possessing swarmed, terribly constructed apartments. Settlers grew new ethnic societies in their neighborhoods, while bigotry took after African American transients from the rural country side to the city. Urban neighborhoods provided immigrants and African American with a place which felt like home for them. They could stick together, talk a similar dialect hone every same custom. It had common guide social orders also. Be that as it may, it made immense isolation ethnically isolating additionally partitioned along efficient class. The Immigrant and esp. AA confronted appalling/restricted…
When a child experiences involvement from the neighborhood it can help reduce risk factors associated with neighborhoods who experience high levels of negative social climate. The more positive involvement from the community and parents indicates lower stress levels as well and fewer behavioral problem in disadvantaged neighborhoods specifically. The second article I read is entitled Neighborhood matters: racial socialization of African American Children O’Campo, Caughy, Lohrfrink and Nettles (2006), which examines whether racial socialization parental practices differed among neighborhood, are associated with cognitive and development, and child outcomes are consistent depending on neighborhood context. A total of 241 African American 1st graders who lived in urban areas participated in the study. To measure socialization practices they used three subscales which included preparation for bias such as “Racism is real, you have to understand it or it will hurt you”, racial pride such as “Never be ashamed of your color”, and promotion of mistrust such as “Whites make it harder to get ahead” (O’Campo et al., 2006. p.…
Growing up in a lower income family can have many challenging. Personally, I have not experienced this outcome of living on a lower salary. But I do see this kind of poverty throughout the community.…
Families with lower incomes tend to live in more densely occupied housing areas. Families on lower incomes are often forced to rent rather than buy their homes. Different social class groups often live in different neighbor hoods, but there can be disadvantages to living in poor-quality or high-density housing. These can include noise, pollution, overcrowding, poor access to shops and other facilities, and…
Housing and community -- There can be a negative affect on children’s development if they have poor quality housing or cramped conditions. Families can become isolated if they live in a community where children have challenging anti-social behaviours, this can make them unwilling to let their child play in the community. Health facilities and education can be tricky to access if transport is limited.…

Housing and community- Some families that live on a council estate may feel bullied by others that live different this would make the child or young person feel upset and maybe anger. Another example could be if you live in a multi cultural you may feel you have to be very welcome and you may also feel you are judged because you don’t have the same customs or religious views of other people in the community. Families can become secluded if they live in a community where children have thought-provoking anti-social behaviours, this can make them reluctant to allow their child play in the community.…

The first factor that influences human development is a person’s socioeconomic status. This indicates a person’s position in society as determined by income, wealth, occupation, education, and place of residence. As a child, socioeconomic status has a big effect on the way a child is raised and the opportunities available to him/her. Children that come from high socioeconomic status families typically are more successful because they have more resources readily available to their children. They are able to afford high-quality childcare, education, and healthcare. Their children are also typically more involved in recreational sports and extra-curricular activities broadening their children’s horizons and talents. Children that are raised in low socioeconomic families lack the financial, educational, and social support that would make them feel equal to children from higher social standing families. These feelings of unease and not fitting in can lead to low confidence and low motivation. Children have to live with these feelings and the circumstances they were born into until they become adults and can make their own livings. Anyone is capable of overcoming his or her circumstances! When children grow up, they get to decide how far they want to take their education and what type of career field they want to go into as…
The definition of a slum varies from one form to another depending on the background or country from which an individual comes from. Someone from a rich country may define slums as old run-down buildings, whereas someone from a poor country will define slums as un-serviced haphazard constructions. The universal definition of a slum as found in the dictionary is said to be a heavily populated urban area characterized by substandard housing and filth. Slums are seen as a purely physical phenomenon. Slums are populated by two groups of people, the poor and the strangers.…

The squatters in the Philippines have wreaked havoc in the country and they are out of control. The problem is quite obvious and the solution is staring everyone in the face; there are just not enough public servants with enough guts to address the issue. But someone has to put an end to the vicious cycle of squatting particularly in Metro Manila where most poor Filipinos from the provinces seem to converge.…
