Low Carb Diet
When I started the course, I wanted to learn about the different aspects of medicine while exploring various clinical topics and medical myths. Through the different presentations presented by my colleagues and my group, I was able to discover the truth behind many medical myths. For instance, an apple a day is good for our health and provides iron, but it does not necessarily keep the doctor away. Then through the clinical topic presentations, I learned about the effects of the Low Carb Diet on our bodies. As a dancer, I was told that the Low Carb Diet was an effective weight loss method. However, through the presentations, I was exposed to the various components and effects of the diet on different people with different lifestyles. I was …show more content…
My learning objectives included learning to produce effective knowledge translation videos by communicating complex clinical concepts to the public in an organized and straightforward manner. I also wanted to learn about different presentation methods. Further, some of my goals included, developing my group work, public speaking, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills as well as being able to summarize complex topics in a short period while efficiently communicating the key ideas. I have been able to achieve my learning objectives and my goals while working through the course. However, alongside these skills, my listening skills and feedback skills have also improved as a result of the seminars and class …show more content…
Every team member brought something unique to the group and our broad backgrounds allowed us to produce creative knowledge translation videos. Then, by the course being student driven we were able to develop our conflict resolution skills, learn how to improve from peer feedback, and become more independent. However, to enhance the course I would suggest that before or after seminars, students are given a summary handout of the topic as at times the presenter was not able to convey their message clearly to the audience. Then more clinical topics should be introduced to the list for the students to choose from in order to prevent topic repetition during class presentations. Through this course, we were able to create a bridge between the general public and the world of

I am writing on behalf of Titilayo Okoror for Binghamton University Undergraduate Research Mentoring award. I have known Dr. Okoror for three years now as a professor and mentor. My first introduction to Dr. Okoror was as a student in both Global Health and Immigrant and Refugee Health courses. During my time as her student, Dr. Okoror’s course quickly became my most thought-provoking and enlightening classes of my university experience. From her lesson plans, teaching of materials and leading of class discussion, her classes were informative, compelling and most importantly life changing. Life-changing may seem like an exaggeration, however, Dr. Okoror constructs course using interesting materials and allows such comprehensive conversation amongst her students that you leave each classroom with some type of new knowledge that often festers for my days, even weeks and expands your knowledge and typically changes your previous mindset about the way you view a certain subject. I don’t believe many course hold this same type of effect on students.…

Ever since I transferred to the University of Miami as an undergrad, I have had the gratification and honor to meet and work with various remarkable people, from physicians to scientists and staff. Doing research and shadowing at Miami Miller School of Medicine gave me the prospect to admire how marvelous the school and its community are. Furthermore, I have had the satisfaction to meet several professors who teach at the medical school and the prospect of learning from them is enticing. Being able to experience first-hand the compassion and care that the doctors at Miller demonstrate their patients have also confirmed that this school is not short of role models for me to follow. Additionally, I have met several students who have shared their…

I know all the research and understanding of the communication of the nursing community will prove to be helpful as I progress in anatomy. Being able to have an understating of how my major functions will give me an advantage next year in anatomy two and my future nursing classes as we will have to incorporate the communication techniques I research on within our own communication during clinicals. I also believe that what I have learned will also be helpful towards the last project we have coming up. From the drafting and revision process to how communication works in a discourse community to relying your information on what the audience expects will prove to be essential to completing the last project. All that I have learned from this project and the last two projects will help as I wrap up all I have learned from these projects into project four. All the information and techniques I learned in designing to meet my audience’s needs will help me use these newly learned skill into the last project and hopefully in other future projects or…
