A balanced diet is obvious to sustain a healthy body, calories are often the centre of attention when maintaining a healthy diet, for that reason; we often eat snacks between our three main meals. Snacks contain an immense amount of energy in comparison to our normal meals. However, eating too much of these ‘snacks’ can lead to obesity. Many food manufactures produce crucial nutritional information to give an insight on how much energy food contains.

How to measure the energy content of food?

Importance of fat in a healthy diet
When people pursue a diet, many come under the notion that all fats are harmful and need to be removed from their diet.

However, fats are split in to three categories: saturated fats, Tran’s fats and unsaturated fats. Saturated fats are usually established in animal products, such as meat and eggs, are extremely harmful for the body; they increase the levels of bad cholesterol and clog the arteries. Tran’s fats form when vegetable oil solidifies and are found in processed food. Both of these fats should be avoided due to their harmful consequences. However, unsaturated fats which are established in fish, nuts and vegetable oil are the fats needed for our diet.

Hypothesis
The hypothesis of my investigation was
“Some snacks release more heat energy than others because they contain more fat”.

In other descriptions, she is described as “heavily made up”, “her fingernails were red”, “cotton house dress and red mules”, “bouquets of red ostrich feathers (Page 32). There is a consistent repetition of the colour red in that description; the reader would associate this colour with negativity, such as death, danger. Steinbeck is foreshadowing her death with such a colour.

The fats that are bad for us are saturated, and trans fats and the better fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
