Lord Of The Flies Movie Analysis

The organization of law and civilization is what gives people the structure to maintain peace. The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding takes place during World War II; in the story a plane that is carrying boys ages 12 and younger gets shot down over an inhabited island: leaving the boys to fend for themselves. Originally the boys choose one leader, Ralph, but as the story goes on, the boys begin to split into two separate groups with Ralph being the leader of one group, and Jack is the leader of the other. Similarly, in the movie The Mist by Stephen King, people get stranded in a grocery store do to a mist the holds unearthly monsters. In this movie the people are also split into two groups, one being with David, who is concerned about finding a way to escape the mist, and the other being Mrs. Carmody who says there is no way to escape the mist, and death is inevitable. When the boys gather for their first assembly in Lord of the Flies, they vote for Ralph to be the leader, so he can maintain structure, and they can be rescued. In the same way David takes the role as the leader in the beginning of the movie and works towards finding a way out of the mist. As these stories advance, an outside character becomes more agitated by the way their chief is leading them. In Lord of the Flies, Jack is the one upset by his leader because he believes that hunting is more important, so he creates his own tribe that separates away from Ralph’s group.
