Peaceful life with everyone having a say or violent life where one person only has say? In the novel, “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding is about a group of children driven apart into two groups, under different leaders, doing different things in order to survive. Jack’s group, called the “Hunters” is a military like squad where they hunt wild boar to sustain themselves. Ralph’s group is more easy going governed by the elected and the conch. Both parties on the island exhibit different traits that make them seem opposite at many times even though they both share a common goal: survival. Ralph’s side ultimately represents the government of the United States with free speech and no fear tactics to control the crowd. Jack on the other hand represented a dictatorship using various methods to dominate the boys such as fear, propaganda, and promises. Using this, Jack used the monster in various occasions to strengthen his “army” and promises of meat/fun to gain popularity. He did what the children wanted that made him most favorable, what dictators did before going into office. Jack abused his power with no backlash, while Ralph struggled just to steer it. He didn't listen to the people and instead did what he thought was best which the US did but would be changed due to popular sovereignty. Both boys ruled differently mustering up different outcomes that greatly represent those times. The boys may have ruled differently, but the ending was the same for both which was being rescued. If the soldiers did not appear on the beach to save them, Jack’s tribe would have come out the survivor. He knew what the audience wanted and focused on that which made him a miniature super power on the island. Ralph being close to murdered proved how influenced the boys were by Jack even going as far as to kill by his command. Ralph’s tribe may have been the most successful in a more mature audience but he was out of place being stuck with children and not others his age which cost him his
