“The rows of sleek, shiny lockers that once symbolized American high school life are gathering dust…” Lockers were once of the biggest deals for adolescents during their time in the school system. They are slowly making a disappearance on multiple campuses across the United States of America. Although, Lockers are a nice privilege to have around, but they are all around inconvenience and unnecessary addition to school life. There are alternatives to using lockers and they are lavish expense The use of lockers have gone down in recent years, they are obsolete in during times like these. For example, Beena Raghavendran, writer of At Metro High Schools, Lockers are Losing Their Luster, states, “Students bring laptops or iPads instead of textbooks to class, or there are Chromebooks available for checkout at school.” Lockers are done for, the world has invented better things; that not only cut out lockers but solid books. The future is now and advanced technology is supplanting anachronistic tools that we used to use. Moreover, Amanda Skrzypchak, writer of Lockers Becoming Obsolete in Bismarck High Schools, says, “We're a one to one building where every student has a chromebook, so the majority of the students just carry their chromebook with them and there's not a huge use for a …show more content…
To show this, Beena Raghavendran, states, “Lockers could run from $50 for a basic one to $100 for a heavy-duty unit.” With the cost of lockers that money could be spent on new programs or better bathrooms. Schools should not be spending money on something when there are better options. Heavy backpacks are a serious issue and lockers seem like the solution. Schools should use the money spent on lockers for a class set of books; making them unnecessary and pointless. There are simple solutions to big problems. People can use their resources on ways to combat the heavy load issue other than expensive

    The lockers have been given to the students expecting them to take care of it and being responsible over it. What is the need to go through it? I have been given a locker since sixth grade and never once has a teacher much less a principle gone through my locker. If they were to go through my locker it would make me feel like i'm a suspect for something I have no connection with.On our way into school each day student’s book bags are checked each day. There have even been instances in which the security guards have taken over an hour to go through the student's belongings, while teachers, administrators and principals go through without being checked not only is it hypocritical but unjust.
