Little Red Riding Hood's Fractured Fairytales
Fractured Fairytales Once upon a time, there was a girl known as Little Red Riding Hood and she recently got in a fight with her mother! What happened was that Little Red Riding Hood ate her mother’s pie without her mother’s consent. The pie was for Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother, as it was for her birthday today. After Little Red Riding Hood and her mother argued, Little Red Riding Hood decided to go to her grandmother’s for the rest of the weekend. She packed her doll and set out on the long walk to her grandmother’s home, which the only path to it is through the Dark Forest. Just after leaving she forgot the dangers of the forest and remembered that there was a legend of the Big Bad Wolf. After about five minutes she finally arrived

The Grimm Brothers describe Little Red Cap forcing the wolf “down the roof” with the smell of sausage, and consequentially drowning in the trough (Tatar 16). “Little Dread Riding Hood” portrays that heroic scene by designing a presumably older little red riding hood riding a wolf as though it was a horse. This domestication, or possibly dead body, of the wolf into a play toy demonstrations how little red riding hood matures, and is able to defend herself against the wolf rather than relying on someone else, the huntsman, to save…

In The Woman in Fairy Tales, Marie-Louise von Franz studies the feminine representations in fairy tales. She bases her study on collective symbols assumed to be present in these stories to shed light on the various facets of the anima. This book points at the fact that even if fairy tales are generally seen as a form of distraction, these stories have also a psychological function which expresses the psychic processes of the collective unconscious. This is of a capital interest to analyze the instrumentalization of the princesses in the advertising campaigns.…

Carter herself says that ‘All the mythic versions of women, from the myth of the redeeming purity of the virgin to that of the healing reconciling mother, are consolatory nonsense.’ It is clear that Carter believes in the reinvention of the typical woman - however she does not believe in the retelling of these stories, but rather 'to extract the latent content from the traditional stories and to use it as the beginnings of new stories'. The Company of Wolves converts the classic character of Perrault’s Little Red Riding Hood from a naïve, gullible and helpless young girl to a ‘strong-minded child’ who has an awareness of the world around her while possessing the innocence and purity of a young woman also.…

Many short stories have been written throughout time. Many are just for entertainment, but many of them are for teaching a lesson. Little Red Riding Hood was written partly to teach a lesson. In France, a girl that loses her virginity is said to have “seen a wolf.” That is what this story is based on. Little Red Riding Hood is about a little girl that runs in to a wolf in the forest as she is on her way to her grandmother’s house. Her grandmother was ill and her mother baked some food to make her feel better, in which Little Red Riding Hood was taking to her grandmother. When she met the wolf, the wolf was thinking he did not want to attack the girl because there were workers in the area and he did not want there to be any witnesses. Therefore, the wolf gained the trust of the little girl in just a short time so he can learn where the grandmother lived. The little girl, being naïve, gave the location of her grandmother’s house to the wolf. The end result was the death of the grandmother and the little girl because the wolf ate both of them.…

From the detail, little red riding hood is a naive and innocent girl who doesn't afraid talking to a male stranger. Mallet reveals that the little girl is acting innocent because the mother tells her don't leave the path, but she apparently ignores her mother by talks to the wolf and walks into the forest. The short story of Little Red Riding Hood is a simple to understand child’s tale and clearly portrays the deceitfulness of appearance. The story is clearly organized with characters and symbols of innocence by a child and the sly dangers represented by a wolf. Throughout the story we see the characters build more of a persona of innocence and evil. It is stated by Cassady, M. (1991), “Symbolism plays a large part in Identity and Difference.” This is seen a lot and very clearly with the oblivious thoughts of Red Riding Hood and the singular objective of the wolf constantly reminded throughout the story. The characters add to the theme and the theme is portrayed though these characters.…
