Peanut butter and tuna fish; some things are not meant to be together. In his book, The Perfect Storm, Sebastian Junger tries to write both as a journalist and as the narrator of separate stories about a sword fishing boat, a three person sailboat, and U.S. Coast Guard Cutter stuck in the middle of colliding weather systems. While his skill in each style individually is exceptional, the way he switches between the two interrupts his flow and the contrasting styles do not fit together well. Junger combines styles as an attempt to broaden his audience and to keep the writer interested, but for me, he was unsuccessful. While he tries to appeal to the reader through the three forms of rhetoric, (pathos, logos, and ethos) his desire to also tell parts of the story as a narrator and to connect the reader to the characters did not blend well with other sections of the book.…

"’I think you deserve your very own life,’ she is saying, waving my protest away. ‘Let me finish. You're still living in the past, Dedé. You're in the same old house, surrounded by the same old things, in the same little village, with all the people who have known you since you were this big.’” (Alvarez 312-313). The past in it’s denotative meaning is one as unthreatening as meanings go, but apply it to gender roles, and it has the power to regress the advancements of generations of women. Dedé’s failure to look to the future is a microcosm of the lack of change yielded by greater womankind, keeping them from living their “‘very own life’”. Of Mice and Men, Othello, and In the Time of Butterflies reflect the confinements surrounding the life…

In conclusion, King Con is a overall a great book. The reasoning over King Con being a great book is because Stephen J. Cannell wrote well. An interesting and clear part of the book was when Beano X. Bates was beat up with a golf club and almost died. It was interesting because usually in novels similar to King Con, people are beat up going fist to fist. This is the reason why King Con is overall a great…
