ASSIGNMENT 01:
Understanding Computer Systems “Internet Café”

Scenario
A friend is planning to open an internet café in Bangor/Lisburn/Downpatrick. He has a budget of £10,000 and would like 20 machines in total (19 for the customers and one for the internet café manager). He would like to provide printing services to customers if possible and he would ideally like to provide access to a number of different operating systems such as Windows, Linux and OSX but would like to stay with a custom PC build with the option to boot different OS’s and to avoid official “Apple” products.
He would also like the internet café machines to be capable of online gaming so that users can access graphics intensive online environments such as “Second Life” and “World of Warcraft” and maybe the occasional “LAN war”.

(a) Task1

Approval needs to be sought from your friend’s financial backers in order to purchase the 20 machines. Without this your friend will not be able to open his internet café business. The financial backers need you to prove to them that you fully understand computer systems before they will permit you to assist your friend with his venture
To do this they would like you to prepare a presentation with detailed speaker notes, or a report, that details the role of computer systems in different situations. Topics to be covered include personal computers, mid-range servers and workstations and high performance systems.
Your presentation should include examples of environments in which such systems may be used. The backers will now be able to fully understand what different types of computer systems exist and their function.
P1.1
You should also include a table that will compare and contrast different types of Computing Systems P1.3
