In Letters From and American Farmer, Crevecoeur argues that "self-interest" is an admirable and moral goal. Do you agreeor disagree that self interest is the best goal that a person can have?
In Letters From an American Farmer, Crevecoeur states that "self interest" is a beneficial goal. Everybody has "self interest" weather it's a goal pertaining to money or education or life. I believe "self interest" is the best goal a person can have. The American Dream itself is about "self interest," not greed or selfishness. Wanting to do good things in life or wanting to have a successful life are both good "self interests."

Many of our ancestors came to the United States of America for one thing, the American Dream. The basic idea of the American Dream is to live a successful, honest, and happy life. This is the reason millions of immigrants landed on Ellis Island. Are all those immigrants greedy and selfish? I believe wanting to have such a life is good "self interest" and not greed.

Several studies/surveys have been done to show that most children want to be more successful than their parents. They also want to give their children more than their parents gave them. My parents are always saying we want you to have the things we never had or do the things we never could. Parents always want to see their children happy and successful so I do not think it is selfish for them to want more for their children.

Most of us have goals in life and most of our goals deal with being successful in one way or another. Most of us are working hard to achieve these goals. One of my goals has always been to make the best of the educational opportunities offered to me. By moving to Rock Hill, I am being told I am not allowed to take advantage of these opportunities. I refuse to believe that and I am fighting to be able to live up to my highest potential. I do not believe that I am selfish and greedy for wanting more than the school says I can have.

Not there are always exceptions to anything. There are people out there that are selfish and greedy when it comes to "self interest." A majority of people are honestly working hard towards the goal of success in their life.

People generally, act in their own financial self-interest. The Principle of Self-Interested Behavior states that when all things are equal, parties involved will gravitate to the action that is most financially advantageous. The American Dream follows a simple principle of having the freedom to reach your personal goal. This goal that every individual makes for themselves is American due to how many opportunities are provided just by being American. An example of freedom to accomplish a goal would be in the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Christopher had a goal to live off the land and be able to be his own person. He started from just being a good student, following all the rules to get to the point where he had the freedom to achieve what he wanted. While he did succeed in starting his dream, it resulted in his death, yet he had the freedom to take that path. That was his own personal dream, and an American Dream is to have the freedom and ability to pursue your goal. I have my dream, I want to help society in anyway that I can while giving myself some reputation and remembrance in the world. This led me down the path of a software engineer.…

When I think of self-interest, the first thing that comes to mind is one's happiness in doing whatever they desire. Ever since I've started taking an economics class this semester, this word has been a topic for discussion. After every class discussion, my interest in knowing more about the word grew. Self-Interest is a complex word and its meanings are broad. From an economist point of view, the word means " one's desire could prosper all." I never thought anybody's self-interest could benefit others.…

The idea of of American Dream is deeply embodied in American history. Humans have always wondered what drives them to make the choices the make. One of the theories people have come up with is that self-interest primarily motivates mankind. This theory is defended in the actions of Luba and her suitor in Angels of Bergen-Belsen, the decisions made by Ilsa Hermann and Hans Hubermann in The Book Thief, and the struggles with death in Night.…

Not too long ago, the dream to me was being successful, which means having money. I figured, in order to be successful, money and wealth were not only necessary, but the primary factor. That isn’t too far from society’s classic version, which relies on money for each step of the path; school, a house, kids, etc. As I grew however, so did my view on the American Dream. My own version has become more realistic as I have become not only more knowledgeable about what I truly need, but also about what I truly want and what could make me happy. Although money and having financial success is helpful in creating a comfortable life without having to worry about debt, living a healthy and fulfilled life should be all that matters to one’s dream, not materialistic things like houses and…

One person in particular is my father. He may not be a millionaire, or own the largest home, but he has worked hard for what he 's got. My father is content with his life. He makes the most of what he has, his family is happy. When examining how he became successful, it appears this happened by reaching smaller individual goals at a time. His first goal, a career. Penn State University hired him as a janitor with an apprenticeship to become an electrician. Next was a family. He already had his highschool sweetheart for the better part of a decade before they tied the knot in June 1992. Three years later their first child was born followed by their second child three years after that. Each goal came with a burst of happiness. This gives the American Dream, by my standards, even better achievability. By setting and reaching goals you should be happy. Personally, I have seen this happen thus making it achievable. Another person with such success is that of my grandfather. He worked in a factory until of the age at which he could retire. He now lives a modest life doing what he loves to do. He has left a legacy of four honest men who are all successful because they followed the American dream in their own…

The American Dream was once based on the same principles of The Declaration of Independence, like freedom and equality. That all men deserve “..life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..” (Revolution) Over time, the dream became more materialized and narcissistic. For some, it promised a journey of milestones and accomplishments. But for others, obstacles in the way were too much of a struggle. Azar Nafisi once said, “The negative side of The American Dream comes when people pursue success at any cost, which in turn destroys the vision and the dream.”…

I have set goals to get the best out of my education for a better future. I realized that the school at my hometown wasn’t going to cut it for me. I made a choice to apply for Mt. Edgecumbe High School, which would teach me independence, get used of dorm life, and take classes I need and want to take that isn’t offered at my old school. I was ecstatic to be accepted into this boarding school and I believe that it is the best high school in the state. It gave me more challenging math classes and the teachers are more clear and easier to understand, making the subjects easier to learn than at my previous school. There is also a more diverse selection of science classes. In addition I feel that the english classes are taught a lot better. I deeply acknowledge the way Mt. Edgecumbe High School operates and I am proud to be a Brave. Now at my second year at Mt. Edgecumbe High School I will be taking an Introduction to Law Enforcement class to start on one of my goals. I want to become a part of law…

"People who pursue their own intellectual interests for purely personal reasons are more likely to benefit the rest of the world than are people who try to act for the public good." There are often both sides of the coin. While I believe that both who pursue their own objectives and who try to act for others can benefit the human, it is more probable that some selfish malevolent desires of human being lead him to the way which not only have no benefit to the whole society, but also undermine its situation. Large number of innovations and discoveries in the world has been done by those who followed their own dreams. The history is full of names of notable scientists such as Einstein or Newton who brought revolution to the world of science as they were motivated to satisfy their own thirst to have knowledge. While their motivators for these famous accomplishments were their inner desire, the results of their endeavors benefit others too. Other than scientist, there are lots of musician and artists who enriched the lives of human beings while they invest their time and energy on their own interest. Musicians such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach in different periods colored the lives of people and placate their soul. Writers such as Shakespeare caused a stir in the literature by his witty plays. In the other hand, there are so many eminent scientists who made all their effort for enhance the living conditions of human, and tried to help the whole world. Louis Pasteur is probably one of the most important benefactors of humanity. Suffering from the death of people from Rabies, he developed vaccination against this harmful disease. Alexander Graham Bell, during his life span, made tremendous efforts to improve the lives of the deaf. Another great example of people who act for the public good is Mother Teresa. No one who just thinks about his own can leave his comfortable life and choose to live in slums to help the poor. However, if one pursues his own intellectual…
