Date: October 19, 2010 A LESSON LEARNED There are many valuable lessons that I have learned throughout my life. The most important aspect of these lessons is that I have gained valuable knowledge through their experiences. We pay money for lessons taught in college and pay emotionally for our personal lessons, whether they are taught in school or through a personal experience that usually stands out from the rest. My lesson learned was a personal lesson. I played on my high school basketball team. I have some regrets looking back on my high school basketball experience. There were times that I didn’t play as hard as

Some of the things I learned were how to balance a checkbook, how to run a business, and how to budget my time and finances. Along with those real life skills a learned some metaphoric skills as well. I learned that you can’t just plant a seed and it will grow. To start with, you have to have a good foundation, which is the right type of soil. This all applies to life; you have to start with a good foundation if you want to succeed in life.…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

What is a lesson? A lesson means an experience, especially an unpleasant one that somebody can learn from, so it does not happen again in the future. And everyone probably had a lesson of some sort before. For me, I have had many lessons throughout my life already, from small things, like you should always bring an umbrella with you to school, never run with your wallet in your pocket, to something big like studying hard before a test. And these mistakes probably changed my life in ways.…

Life is a series of lessons and challenges which help us to grow. According to Erik Erickson, the better that people come through each crisis, the better they will tend to deal with what lies ahead. People experience the most lessons during their childhood when they are just learning of how the world operates. Children and young adults handle situations very differently because their thought processes are different depending on their experiences. Of course lessons can be revisited successfully when they reoccur as adults, if they are recognized as a problem.…

I learned that if I want to go anywhere in life I need to push myself to my limits. I also learned that many successful people have a lot of grit. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and many others have grit as well as strong, powerful athletes like Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt. Many people who were once unsuccessful and were put down, pulled themselves…

I have played basketball since I was about five years old and I was never that kid that sat on the bench the whole season until my eighth grade year. That year, we had about thirty people on the team and half of them were sixth graders. I told the coach that was stupid of him so I basically did not play the rest of the season. My bad attitude and smart mouth had gotten the best of me and ruined my last season of middle school basketball. I was so aggravated that I almost decided to not play in high school. Of course, Coach Padgett heard about what I did and expected me to…

It’s always a lesson well taught when you learn on your own. Doing something new is always a great experience especially when it came to me. Being that it was my first year at Strafford High School I decided to play basketball and I remember it like it was yesterday. It wasn’t my first time playing basketball but my first time playing on a team. When basketball season came along, I decided to get in shape and get fit playing a sport. Although I was chunky I did well. I tried out for freshman girls’ basketball because I finally worked up the courage to play. I tried out for both freshman and JV teams. Although I made both teams, my coaches placed me on the freshman team. Playing basketball, I stayed both healthy and I was fit to be a chunky kid.…

The first valuable lesson I learned was my ninth grade year of high school, when I cheated on the final test. I was making new friends who, luckily for me, could drive. I found myself going out a lot more than I probably should have but going out was a lot more fun than staying home and studying. My grandfather warned me to get focused in school, I told him not to worry because I always figured my way out but whatever he seemed to say always went in one ear and out the other.I started to come to school late everyday. If I did come on time, I would fall asleep in class. I missed a lot of homework and class activities. So, I was already behind the class before I even knew about it. I did not know what to do when the final was about to come, I was stuck in a bad situation, so I decide to take the short cut and cheat on the exam. Too bad I got caught and went through a lot of bad experiences with the teachers and school principal. Only then did I start to belief there was a little truth to what my grandfather had tried to teach…

"EXPERIENCE IS THE GREATEST TEACHER”, an old saying that I suggest that they would benefit more from learning than education in school. Life is a series of experiences. Some of the most simple and important lessons of all can only be learned through the hard knocks of experience. I think we need to learn from our mistakes and also from our past. We cannot escape experience. Experience has taught me that I can become anything or anyone I want to be. We actually have to do the things and learn from it. Not always as easy as it sounds and sometimes it is painfully. There are things I couldn't learn from someone else so I had to get in and experience them for myself. Get my hands dirty, as it were. My lessons may not be any different than what I would have gotten in school... but they are certainly more personal and meaningful, because I've had to work them out on my own.…
