Legalization of Medical Marijuana

The uses of ​Marijuana have been controversial in the United States. Research has suggested that active ingredients found in marijuana can help treat certain medical conditions. This has sparked a huge debate on whether medical marijuana should be legalized without federal sanctions.

Understanding the benefits of medical marijuana use may help shed some light on the position of supporters. The fear of legal repercussions from the Federal Government is considered a mitigating factor in medical marijuana adoption. There are many valid arguments for and against the legalization of this substance. There are even arguments between supporters. Some wish for complete decriminalization, while others hope for a limited access policy with government oversight.

1P) The story of medical marijuana in the United States began in 1978, when Robert Randall was arrested for using marijuana to treat his glaucoma. Randall sued the United States and won, and the ruling required the FDA to provide Randall with marijuana for medicinal use. Since then, 16 states and the District of Columbia have approved marijuana or marijuana-derived substances for medicinal use[1].

In my opinion, I believe that states where there is a general desire to legalize marijuana should only be allowed to legalize medical marijuana. Eighty-three percent of Americans favor allowing doctors to prescribe small amounts of marijuana for patients suffering from serious illnesses[2]. This shows a really strong support for the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes.
