Throughout the last century the Philippines has been a nation with many separate ethnic groups within its boundaries. Its seven ethnic groups ( more depending on the method one uses to differentiate the population) are scattered over 7,000 islands (Banlaoi 2005). The Philippines pre-1995 was a country whose economy was largely based on agricultural production and on a small part on mineral resources such as copper, gold, chromium, and iron. It has been estimated that 90 % of Philippines' minerals have been undeveloped . Filipino government was authoritarian and considered weak, corrupt, and run by ruling families, clans, landlords and business. While the country regularly held elections, they were considered a farce as the ruling powers could easily influence and buy the outcome of elections to keep the status quo intact. It's no wonder then the government suffered low morale, corruption, and limited technological skills. All of these issues resulted in keeping the country from having a cohesive socioeconomic organization (Villanueva 21).…

Moreover, as what Dr. Jose Rizal did, it leads me to a well understanding that I should not depend on what is currently going on. There are times that other people will abuse your insanity. Just like what happened to our ancestors, it really made my tears fell down when I saw the friars hurt a little innocent boy. Spanish citizens went here to the Philippines just to be superior and let Filipinos be under their wings and we Philippine citizens can do nothing just to stop them because were not educated enough compare to them. How cruel they are. They never wanted us to be well-educated so they could continue their evil doings. One of the factors that contributed to the difficulty of solving national issues in the Philippines (today) is the absence of nationalism and patriotism in the hearts and minds of the Filipino youth. According to Benedict Andersen in a thesis presented by April Herrera and Jayvee Robias (2010), nationalism is on the verge of crossing its boundaries and it is not only confined to the nation state alone. Unfortunately, the Filipinos especially the youth today do not know the significance of nationalism and patriotism to the country. The best way for the Filipino youth to trigger their nationalistic consciousness is through educating them by imparting Philippines’ heritage to all aspects of learning. A speech by Leticia Constantino in Education Forum Symposium (1985) promotes that educating the Filipino youth about the history of the Philippines will serve as a realization for the youth to understand the means of being true Filipinos – Filipinos who will serve for the Philippines and for the countrymen. Once the Filipino youth became aware about the events that are continuously happening in the Philippines, the youth will start to get themselves active and involve in making advocacies and projects that can create a change for the betterment of the country.…
