Landlady Alternate Ending
And at the moment Billy Weaver heard the landlady’s words, he knew the situation was going wrong. Unless he gets out of the house as quick as possible, he knew his fate would become the same as Mr. Mulholland and Temple. He was sure of it. The landlady seemed to realize Billy’s expression changed.
“Is anything wrong?” The landlady asked.
“What is this tea? I have never drunk this kind of tea before.”
Looking excited she asked again. “Oh do you like it? Do you want some more?” “No. I am asking what kind of tea this is.”
Smiling suspiciously, she answered. “Of course you never drank this tea before. I made it myself. And I put something you wouldn’t even imagine.”
“What..?”
“Oh Billy, I am so glad you came into my life. You are a young and handsome boy. All I ever wanted was boys like you. Boys are Mr. Mulholland and Mr. Temple.” “I am not staying here. I should get out now.” As he moved his step to go and get his belongings, the landlady grabbed his arm. “No! You can never leave this house! You will forever be mine and no one will able to see you again!”
Billy Weaver got so scared that he could not even answer. He froze. But he knew he had to think. He had to think of

I must get out of here!” His body shook. But with courage, he got out of the room and walked swiftly to the front door. He grabbed the handle of the door and opened it. But then the landlady grabbed his arms and shouted. “I knew this! I knew you would betray me! Come here I will kill you now!” “Let go of me!” Billy shouted and pushed the landlady. She fell to the ground and he ran away from the house as quick as possible. He reached the ‘Bath Groceries’ shop and reported what he has gone through. “A woman living in that house! She is so weird. She is a killer! I have to report it quickly to the police. Where is the nearest police office?” “Oh that lady? I always thought she was peculiar too. Her talking to herself.. Anyway, the police office is only 300 meters

Though he was able to escape war unharmed, Billy seems to be mentally unstable. In fact, his nightmares in the German boxcar at the prisoners of war (POW) camp indicate that he is experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): “And now there was an acrimonious madrigal, with parts sung in all quarters of the car. Nearly everybody, seemingly, had an atrocity story of something Billy Pilgrim had done to him in his sleep. Everybody told Billy Pilgrim to keep the hell away” (79). Billy’s PTSD is also previously hinted when he panics at the sound of sirens: “A siren went off, scared the hell out of him. He was expecting World War III at any time. The siren was simply announcing high noon” (57). The most prominent symptom of PTSD, however, is reliving disturbing past experiences which is done to an even more extreme extent with Billy as Slaughterhouse-Five’s chronology itself correlates with this symptom. Billy’s “abduction” and conformity to Tralfamadorian beliefs seem to be his method of managing his insecurity and PTSD. He uses the Tralfamadorian motto “so it goes” as a coping mechanism each time he relives a tragic…

Though Billy displays many positive character traits, his kindness to those around him stands out the most. He exudes genuine care and concern for those around him, especially for Reuven, who shares a similar ailment. Despite only knowing him for a little while, he remarks to his new friend, “We were all very worried about you” (49). Later, he demonstrates kindness to Mr. Savo by encouraging him about his injury, and the hospital staff by not complaining about the food, even though others did. Potok does not write much about Billy in the story, but even the smallest of actions give…
