Lancelot Or The King Of The Cart Essay
Chretien de Troyes of France was associated with Marie of France, the Countess of Champagne. There are five Arthurian romances written by Chretien and one of them is the story of Lancelot, or the Knight of the Cart. In Arthurian legend, Chretien describes Lancelot as a major important character in Arthurian romances. Chretien takes his audiences to the psychology of love that deals with Lancelot’s tests and trials that will lead him to be a loyal adulterer. In Lancelot, or the King of the Cart shows the risks of secret love between the Lancelot and the Queen contrasted with the benefits that also inspire others. On his journey saving Queen Guinevere, Lancelot’s quest founded on his love for the Queen. Lancelot is successful on the trials and …show more content…
Lancelot is being manipulated through his love that causes him to do moral and shameful deeds outside the court. His public reputation was being jeopardize because his own personal matters. He is often distracted and never realize that he is putting himself in danger. Moreover, Lancelot succeeds on every trials he encounters but this is only proves his ability to be sincere lover and setting aside his role being a chivalric knight.
Although he encounters dilemmas in the story, Lancelot is still the hero of the King of the Cart. The love he has shown in the story has a great impact to others and might be a potential to improve his worth even more. Lancelot shows that a love that is easily won is not worthwhile and it only proves that his intention and dedication to Guinevere is pure and genuine in order to succeed on every trials. As what Maya Angelou says, “Love is a condition so powerful; it may be that which pulls the stars in the firmament. It may be that which pushes and urges the blood in the veins. Courage: you have to have courage to love somebody because you risk everything-

    The third book focuses its main point on a young knight named Lancelot who grows to be Authors greatest knight and best friend. Only three knights, Sir Bors, Sir Percival, and Sir Galahad, are pure enough to find the holy vessel. Lancelot returns a holy man and for a while his love for God makes him stay away from Guenever, but after he rescues her from a kidnapper, they begin their affair again. The destruction of Camelot becomes inevitable. Mordred, Arthur’s son, plots revenge against his father. Arthur is trapped into acknowledging the affair between Lancelot and Guenever, which forces Arthur to prosecute her. Lancelot rescues Guenever from being burned at the stake. Arthur and his armies lay siege to Lancelot’s castle. The pope sends an emissary to broker a truce, and Guenever returns to Arthur’s castle at…

    Both authors want to relate with there audience, therefore they use relatable events to do so. In Arthurian Romances De Troyes relates to the audience by portraying courtly play in the punishment of Guinevere. In the Middle Ages readers were intrigued by violence and brutality, which directly correlated with Guinevere being burned at the stake. De Troyes uses the phrase, “Offenders were punished / By being set in the cart / And driven up and down / The town. This quote portrays a part of the punishment, and also brings forth a sense of guilt in Guinevere and Lancelot; this is what enticed the readers.     The book Morte Darthur by Sir Thomas Malory is a compilation book that is filled with many stories of Arthurian legend. In Malory’s book is the retelling of the many well known knights in popular culture and of those who are relatively unknown. But the one of the most important elements of the book is the telling the story of the Knights of the Round Table. Malory’s stories do a great job of illustrating the story in such a way that makes it seem as if the reader was there experiencing it for themselves. Even though the most prevalent character throughout the book is King Arthur, Malory writes about two other knights who are of much important to the story the book tells. These two knights are Sir Lancelot and Sir Tristram. Before reading Malory’s book, I knew of King Arthur and of Sir Lancelot a little but I do not know of Sir Tristram. But after reading Morte Darthur, I am more knowledgeable of them and have a better understanding. It had also occurred to me that they had many similarities. Both knights were great and valiant.
