Captain Francisco Pizarro formed a partnership in Panama with Diego de Almagro and the priest Hernando de Luque in order to explore the Pacific coast, looking for a Biru tribe that became the name Peru. His first expedition began in November 1524 with eighty men and four horses; but they suffered starvation, and Almagro lost an eye fighting natives. In 1526 they took two ships and captured a balsa raft with rich ornaments of silver and gold. Pizarro kept three captured natives to learn Spanish and be interpreters. The next year only thirteen men stayed with Pizarro on the Isla del Gallo; but in 1528 Pizarro discovered the Inca city of Tumbez. He went to Spain and at Toledo persuaded the Queen to appoint him governor and captain-general of Peru;…

Taiga: a moist subarctic forest dominated by conifers (as spruce and fir) that begins where the tundra ends. The word taiga is of Russian origin, quite appropriate considering that a large part of the world’s taiga forests are located there. Taigas are also commonly called boreal forests and many of North America’s taigas are referred to as such. Taigas are found in Eurasia and in North America. They are characterized by the abundant presence of coniferous trees and poor soil due to the acidic needles that they drop.…
He formed a partnership with other conquistadors to explore to the south of Panama. They travel to Peru in 1526 and then returned to get permission to claim the land for Spain. In 1531, their expedition which included Pizarro's three half brothers sailed from Panama. The next fall Pizarro entered the city of Cajamarca and took the Inca leader Atahuapla hostage. Despite having paid a ransom to spare his life, Atahuapla was killed in 1533. Pizarro then conquered Cuzco, another important Inca city, and founded the city of Lima, now the capital of…

With just two students left to get on, the balance board rises and falls slowly, as those two people creep onto the board, making sure it does not make any contact with the ground. Then the whole group cheers, as they have just completed the challenge in record breaking time. This explains the “whale watch” challenge at the Pine Lake Challenge Course which is where the eighth graders from Corpus Christi School had just visited. Pine Lake Challenge Course is an adventurous, outdoor activity center in which to complete the task at hand, it is necessary to work with and cooperate with the other ten students in the proximity. My expectations of the day were not met because of a certain, few people.…
This paper is a summary of an observation that occurred at Atascadero Lake Park in Atascadero, California. The observation occurred over a three hour period using a checklist that was developed prior to the observation. Although there were several children playing at the park on this particular day I focused primarily on one child and his interactions with peers and the adult authority figure present with the child. This paper will include observations of interactions between other children that appeared to be in his respective age group as well as children of the opposite sex and in some cases younger and older. Through the use of Piaget’s theory of child development and other resources I will compare the child’s development as compared to other children in his age range, as well as ascertaining and conveying the parenting style that I observed during this time.…

Amazingly, these issues will have no direct impact on us primarily because our area's water supply originates from city-owned artisan wells. Nevertheless, although we are not directly effected, the relevant environmental awareness has been awakened. I will continue to monitor these issues and share information with…
The water glistened off the sun like a polished pearl. After strolling up to the shore, she gazed at the astounding view. She hopped into ice-cold liquid, and felt a chill crawl up her back. “How does it feel,” yelled a far off voice. “It feels great… jump right in,” she lied. She thought about how Lake Holcombe allows people to be themselves, spend time with family, and become stronger mentally and physically.…
As soon as I feel the sun’s warmth on my face peeking over from behind the rim of Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, I am wide awake. I open my tent to see deep, vivid reds and pinks, along with bright oranges and yellows and the luminous sun in the middle of nature’s masterpiece. Although it is only around forty degrees this morning, I can feel my heart burning with the desire to explore the various park features. It is only my first day at Crater Lake, and I can already feel myself beginning to love this unique, wonderful place.…
Kayaking can be a wonderful, relaxing sport, what better place to do it than the scenic, nature filled area of the Indian River Lagoon in Central Florida. We moved to the Sebastian area of Central Florida around five years ago, but we didn't discover what the Indian River Lagoon had to offer until the last two. Now we look forward to the outstanding experience of kayaking on it as often as possible. Whether you have your own kayak or rent one in the area you are sure to have a great time. The lagoon is a great place for beginners because it is so shallow. In the Sebastian area the lagoon is only about a mile across to the other side and most of it is so shallow that you can stand up if you accidently flip your kayak. You can paddle north or…
As you walk into Marineland, and you see all the posters of the cute sea lions, dolphins, orcas etc. You think to yourself, “Wow, this park is the best! Everything looks so clean, and the animals in the poster look like they’re treated well, right?” Wrong. In reality, most of the animals are kept in dirty, tiny cages. How do these people expect for the animals to somehow survive in these inhumane conditions?…
In today’s society there is a war going on, a battle to control our minds, hearts, and souls with a simple idea. An idea so dangerous that it not only has it indoctrinated us as a generation, but indoctrinating future generations without so much has a scrap of scientific evidence. An idea that questions our livelihood, why we are here, why we do what we do, and where do we go when it is all said and done. This idea is known as the Evolutionary theory and its concepts derived nearly 200 years ago by Charles Darwin in his book the Origin of Species. Darwin states” I see no good reasons why the views given in this volume should shock the religious views of anyone.” (1859, pp. 520)…
