Taiwanese Kite Festival
Kite Festival is the event where people made different kind of kites to fly them. Few days ago I went to Delap to attend the kite festival. I really enjoyed the event and although there are many reasons why I like about the kite Festival, few major facts why I like the event the most and catches my attention.
First reason why I like the event is that the Taiwanese allowed the kids to fly and played their kites. Each kid that I saw during the event was really happy. They enjoyed playing with the different kind of kites. The Taiwanese even gave the kids each a small kite that they can play with it and fly it around and enjoyed the day.
Another reason why I like the event is the Kites. There are about ten to fifteen kites that flying in the air. Each kite shape like different kind of animals and that one thing that catches my attention. I even asked myself why is all the kites shape like an animal. Later on after interviewing or talking with one of the team member, I found out that an animal is the best shape that they used. He said that the every entire kite they fly will always be an animal’s shape. Each kite has different kind of color and they look bright with their color.
Finally I like the event because I learn something from it. First thing that I learn is how to make it and what materials that used to make a kite. According to them, Bamboo stick and silk is the best material to make a kite. They show us how they made it and it was really awesome seeing them making a kite for the kids. I also learn that the event is really important because they bring back the Taiwanese or Chinese history and of course bring flying sport to Marshall Island. Also learned what are the kite for and there are many things that they can use for the kite. For example they used the kite for sport and also for war. Small or big kites can be both useful for many reasons.
In conclusion, I really admired the

I have always loved my county fair in Tulare, CA. I love seeing all the different animals and aspects of agricultural together in one place. My most positive thought of my fair is educating outsiders about my animals. This was my first time walking thru the Fresno fair so it was a little different not being involved in the dairy barn. I was able to view the fair as an outsider in some way. This let me realize some major aspects and some things I have never realized about the fair.…

On March 26, 2016 I went to the 102nd University of Oklahoma Spring Powwow hosted in Lloyd Noble Center. The American Indian Student Association has been hosting this event every spring. It is known as the longest running powwows in the nation and the world. Besides that, it is a unique opportunity to express the beauty of the native culture. Personally, it was an interesting experience to me to discover the creativity of this culture through their dances, songs and artwork.…

People from different cities, and states come down just for this event. There are six stages, dozens of rides, and a full gallery’s worth of art, cool off zones, vendors, food and beverages. We were surrounded by the smell of popcorn and cotton candy. It felt like the carnival you liked to go to as a kid. Everywhere we went there were people dressed like rainbows. Everybody was dressed in so many colors, and dressed like clowns, with different costumes. The…

The basketball tournaments is the staff versus the guests. The best game I’ve seen was when it was the guests down by 4 to the staff with 16 seconds left it got down to 10 seconds left, one of the guests makes a 3 then we steal the ball from the staff of the guests gets dunk for the win with 2 seconds left and we won it, was straight out of a movie but it was amazing to see. But the best part is the sand-sculpture contest. Every year about 50 people go down to the beach for about 2 hours and try to make the best sand-sculpture possible, the winner gets a free milkshake at the shop. One of the best winning sculptures was beautiful the guy who made it his name was Josh Lyon so he made a big lion about his size then laid next to it for the picture. My 3 friends and I also participated, we made a sculpture of a volcano and wet sand as the lava although we got didn’t we get 1st place we still got 3rd and it was a blast making it with them and hanging out on the beach for 3 hours.…

This event has the capability to bring people together by showing how everyone has a common enemy, and a common goal. This is an important issue for me because while living in Williams Lake all of my life I have always been surrounded by people who claim to hate this town, yet never actually leave. It is these peoples negative outlook that helps give off the towns harmful reputation; because no matter how sunny of a day it is, these people will always find a cloud. Having a multicultural festival would be our way of fighting back against, not only the fog of racism in our town, but also to shine a light on the positive aspects of Williams…

Who knew that a square of paper, a wooden frame, and a strand of twine could have so much meaning hidden beneath the surface? In the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, among many layers of plot twists and character development, symbolism is an integral part of the storyline. Particularly, the symbol of the kite was one that remained prominent throughout the entire plot. The kite could be interpreted as a representation of freedom, among other ideas. For the protagonist Amir, the kite was arguably what shaped him as a…

In the very beginning of the story we can see the first symbolic use of the kites to represent relationship. “Then I glanced up and saw a pair of kites, red with long blue tails, soaring up in the sky. They danced high above the trees on the west end of the park, over the windmills.” (Page 1) The kites represent the relationship between Amir and Hassan, they float close to one another occasionally bumping each other accidently or manipulated on purpose. As the kite flyer and the kite runner they are a perfect team as each is an expert in their own right. “Every winter, districts in Kabul held a kite-fighting tournament. If you were a boy living in Kabul, the day of the tournament was undeniably the highlight of the cold season … In Kabul, fighting kites was a little like going to war.” (Pages 49-50)…

The next event I looked at was creative problem solving. Personally, I am not the best at critical thinking skills or problem solving skills, but if I actually attempted it I m sure I could. This even allows you to have 1-3 people. This event also has many different rounds. Round one requires you to take a test, and then if you pass the test or test high you move onto the second round. The second round is where you are given a problem to solve in thirty minutes. When you are all done solving your problem you have ten minutes to present your solution. Considering I am not a good test taker I think I’m going pass up this event.…

It was my favorite activity because it was a celebration for the homeless. It gave them hope and essentials before they had to endure the cold winter. A group of us were able to pass out clothing, bedding, and toys to those who waited. I also helped serve holiday meals to people, which included turkey, macaroni, and pumpkin pie. It was rewarding to see everyone eating nice meals while a band played holiday music in the background. For a moment, everyone could forget their situations and enjoy the presence of others. At times, it was overwhelming because we were helping hundreds of people, but in the end I enjoyed it all. I learned the most from this event because I saw parents that were trying to provide for their infants and people who had homes but could not pay for their basic utilities, all desperately waiting in line to receive clothing and bedding. This gave me a new definition of what homeless means.…

A cultural event that I have attended in the past that has had a memorable affect on my life was a Native American Powwow. This event takes place every year, Thanksgiving weekend in Tucson, AZ. I arrived in the late afternoon, as the sun was going down. I remember seeing many different types of people, from tourists to the different Native American performers. The physical setting of this particular celebration was outside, and based around, one main circle. Drums were beating so loud, you could feel the pound inside your chest. Different activities were going on all around, such as dancers, vendors, and a huge variety of foods to choose from. The circular dancing arena is known as the arbor, this area is blessed before any of the events begin (Schultz, 2001). This area is considered to be sacred ground, and is respected throughout the entire celebration (Schultz, 2001). The arbor was made of tree limbs and leaves. The four main entries into the festivities were used to resemble the four points of a compass (Schultz, 2001). The dancers entered from the east entrance, and the main announcer was located by the West entrance. Many spectators were sitting on blankets, and some on lawn chairs. The environment was relaxed, and a very friendly atmosphere. The activities included dance and drum contests, different ceremonies, and many different vendors. The crafts were all handmade and amazing. Each piece looked as if it were specially made from the heart. The Native American culture to me felt festive, warm, and very inviting. The dancer’s come from many different tribes. Their faces were painted, and their costumes consisted of beautiful festive colors. They were made of feathers, sequence, dye, and other natural fabrics.…

As I attended the ceremonies and cultural events I couldn't help but to notice how involved the youth are. As I wrote in my journal ".... There are children with instruments. There are children practicing their choreography. There is a child mimicking her mother's gestures as she talks in her native tongue. All whom which are preparing for a parade. A celebration of their country". I really think that the whole aspect of community and passing on their traditions is something that needs to be shared about this culture. As one member of the organization Sri Lanka American Association of Southern California -SLAASC- said in the interview "Our goal is to foster the spirit of fellowship through the enrichment of cultural heritage for the Sri Lankan community. We pride ourselves for bringing Sri Lankans closer in the community". Not only does this organization bring the community closer, it also allows the community to show the public their culture. Giving them a glimpse of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan community feel that it is important to continue their traditions. It is important to carry on their pride for their country and…
