King Tut: The Mask Of Tutankhamun

The mask of Tutankhamun is a unique golden mask that was owned by the pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty known as King Tut. King Tut was a young powerful pharaoh of a family that ruled Egypt. “Although he was just teenager when he died he was one of the last heir of a powerful family that had ruled Egypt and its empire for centuries, he was laid to rest laden with gold and was eventually forgotten (Williams).” The mask that was found on Tut when his tomb was discovered is made of inlaid gold with glass and semiprecious stones, the mask weights around 24 pounds and is approximately 21 ¼ in height. The mask has a unique metal appeal to it, although it’s made of gold it has a brightly colored shine to it; like freshly polished chrome on a car the gold shines bright. The mask not only shines, but has some unique details on it as well as a powerful stare in its facial expressions. The first thing I notice is the eyes, the eyes has a blue metal around them almost like eyeliner on a woman; straight above the eyes is a blue and gold head cloth with a standing cobra and vulture on the top, then you notice the chin, the chin has a blue braided beard that has a leather strap type
The mask was made from inlaid gold with glass and semiprecious stones and had several details that seem to represent that the young Pharaoh had power over his kingdom. The mask has an almost intimidating when you look at it; the masks stare can almost give you cold chills when looking straight into the eyes of it yet it is completely harmless, perhaps that’s what the Egyptians wanted when they made the mask. Maybe they thought if the tomb would ever be found, that maybe they could scare whoever found it by its intimidating look and gestures.
