The book I read is Hunger Games Catching Fire. The author is Suzanne Collins, the genre of the book is Science Fiction. Catching Fire takes place in a futuristic community that is divided into Districts. District 12 is the one the main character Katniss Everdeen lives in. Katniss is a brave girl who is in her late teens. An example of Katniss being brave is when she crawls under an electric fence to get food for her friend Gale’s family. Kaniss is also very caring. Katniss shows an example of caring when Gale gets whipped and she carries him back to her house so his mom can treat his wounds. The conflict is external and it is person versus society. The conflict is when they are in the arena for the battle and Katniss and Peeta have to fight…

Imagine the cruelest form of a dictatorship you can think of, randomly selecting two young and innocent children per state from their families and friends. This is the corrupt and power-obsessed capitol. The capitol forces 24 children, 2 from each district to get put into an arena where they must violently fight to the death; there are 12 districts. This is called the hunger games, a “celebration” rather than a punishment to remember the 13th district that attempted to overrule the capitol, therefore, destroyed. The treacherous and notorious hunger games are nationally televised to all the districts as a lesson and are an amazing and honorable task to the people of the capitol. When Katniss Everdeen’s sister is randomly selected, Katniss takes her place in the games and wins. She is then reselected back into the games…

Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games series is a literary phenomenon. A three book long story became mainstream and extremely popular in a very quick time and took the literature world by storm. Ask anyone and chances are that they have read the books. In the Catching Fire book, Katniss returns home after winning the hunger game with Peeta. This act of defiance has started the sparks of a rebellion and President Snow forces Katniss to fix it by playing out the love tale between her and Peeta more. Meanwhile she discovers the stories about District 13 and how it’s still existent. Then, the Quarter Quell (25th anniversaries celebrated by special Hunger Games) appears for the 75th anniversary. Of course, this “special” game change is the introduction of competitors all being previous victors. Snow forces Katniss to play this “love story” out more to get the people distracted. Her influence has made her the symbol of the revolution and she’s absolutely needed for the plan of uprising against the Capitol. Without her knowledge, a group of allies is formed and they break out of the arena. Peeta gets captured and when Katniss is flown to District 13…

Amy Poehler once said; "Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you; spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life". Being friends with people who are challenging and inspiring can inevitably affect a person’s life. In Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games and Catching Fire, the main character Katniss Everdeen enlisted to fight in the Hunger Games, where children from twelve to eighteen have to survive and battle each other to death. The beginning of the dystopian novels is set in District 12, a city in the country Panem. For my independent novel study, I have decided to use Suzanne Collin’s Novel the Hunger Games; a story set around a teenaged girl’s firsthand account of gladiator-like sports in a post-apocalyptic era where North America once stood. The book creates a mood or sense of suspense and hope for Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist who has to fight for survival in the Hunger Games. This reminds me of and relates to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Where in his novel, a group of boys are found stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere and must fight for their survival as well as hope to be rescued. Katniss, just like the boys, finds herself trapped in an arena with other tributes, but instead of joining up with them she must fight them to the death in order to survive. She also has hope for her family. That her mother and younger sister Prim are surviving without her being able to care for them by hunting and providing them with a proper meal.…
