KRC Food Pantry
Kingdom in the Valley Christian Church is a non-denominational church that believes in helping one family at a time. KIVCC has many ministries that were established in order to meet the needs of the church member.

The Kingdom Resource Center and Food Pantry was created to provide food boxes for those families in need. The food pantry is opened every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Prior to opening the doors we put together boxes with canned goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, pasta and rice products in addition to some meat, and dairy items.

As a volunteer, you must have the desire to serve others and to forget about your needs when helping others. Yes, you may be going thru at home or at work, but when volunteering your issues are as not as big as the people who have humbled themselves to request help. The philosophy of the KRC Food Pantry directors is, “Give a person a fish sandwich and you will feed them for the day. Teach a person how to fish and they will continue to feed themselves for a life time.” Part of the services provided in addition to the food boxes are job search, clothing for interviews, resume writing assistance and much more.

The boxes include items such as eggs, sausage, salt, pepper, garlic salt, pancake mix, syrup, butter, milk and much more. It includes items that most individuals would purchase for their own homes. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “What would Jesus do?, well the food boxes are a representation of the type of assistance that Jesus would provide.

Although, the volunteer work is part of the requirements for the Honors program, it is a way of life for me. I know the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or who are simply going thru. It also teaches our children how to have a giving heart, and to always be thankful for the blessings in their

They have seven programs that simultaneously educate the community about the hunger problem in Georgia, and they also make sure that people throughout Atlanta are being fed. These seven programs include Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, Atlanta’s Table, Community Gardens, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need and Product Rescue Center. I had the opportunity to participate in two of their programs, which were the Hunger 101 program and the Product Rescue Center. I was first introduced to this organization by volunteering for their Hunger 101 program. This program was very enlightening, and it inspired me to make a difference in my community. This program entailed an interactive group session that educated the volunteers about the hunger problem in Georgia. The volunteers participated in a workshop where we were given the role of being a less fortunate person for a day. We were given this person’s income, how many people lived their house, and all the expenses that they had to pay for. We had to use those values to calculate how much money that person has to spend on food per day. I discovered that most of these people had no more than three dollars to spend on food for their whole family in one day.…

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

A lot of my volunteer work has been through National Honor Society: the Red Out Events, the canned food drive, working at the Snack Shack during the summer, etc. National Honor Society is great because of all of the volunteer work that is available to you. Storage and logistics were difficult at best; we were really working out of the trunk of a car. Over the next few months, we devised a plan to fund and build a storage cabinet in the main classroom at the church. We started packing during the break between services, so others could join in. We shared the need for food donations and volunteers and the offerings started flowing in. We also shopped for the understocked items, after we completed an inventory of the needs for the following week. We placed the packs in bins for the 5 schools, to be delivered on Thursday, by yet other volunteers. Recruiting help was easy; friends would just look in to see what was happening and joined us. Our group of volunteers has a core of 7, including 2 youth. Our numbers swells to 15 or more weekly, including families with children, youth and adults.…

Kids Food Basket survives off of volunteers. Each day, nearly 250 volunteers help this nonprofit organization. There is always a task that needs to be done by a volunteer. From packing and delivering the sack suppers, to leading juice box, snack drives, and fund drives, there is countless opportunities for volunteer…

This week the locations that I researched were places, areas, and environments, we will help out with. Also, I drove around town and found a couple of parks where homeless people live. Really soon, these parks that I found we will hand out bags of food containing sandwiches, fruits and bottles of water. The homeless we assume need help with food and clothing to survive, so to achieve our goal is to help them out one step at a time. The progression of this project is quite difficult because of David and I schedules are different, so we will make plans to meet each other to progress on our project. The motives that we need to accomplish next week are giving out our hand crafted bags of food. Some ideas we need to plan are our schedules and anything…

For example, over 100,000 Delawareans go hungry everyday. As members of the community, it is our job to provide these people with the support they need. We are all very fortunate people who may have taken things for granted, one time or another. Most of us do not know what it is like to go without food for a day because it is not affordable. We need to be willing to try to change people’s lives for the better through our volunteer and service work.…

Service is one pillar of the national honors society that I believe a lot in. I believe that service presents so many opportunities and is such a meaningful way for one to spend their time. During my years at Barrington High School thus far, I have participated in many service projects including packing school supplies for children in foster care, collecting money at ALS tag days, and working with children with disabilities in a horseback riding rehabilitation program. Every week I was excited to see the progress of the children I worked with as they grew through horseback riding, and I am proud to say I played a part in…

I am grateful for the help I received from others. I have always been challenged by members of my community to go above and beyond the expectations. On Wednesday October 26 I went to the Salvation Army Food Pantry & Kitchen on 223 8th Street North. I arrived at about 4:30pm for the free dinner being served. Here is was able to see what it is like to have to go to an organization at a specific time in order to receive free food because I could not afford my own. I did not really talk to anyone here; however, I was able to gather some observations of the different types of people who came to this dinner. Majority being served food, at least when I was there, were Caucasian with one or two African Americans. I did not expect this but there were also families that came to eat at the food pantry. I am not sure exactly how well-off everyone was considering the fact that the pantry is open to the public. However, most of the people there looked as if they were homeless or were not as financially stable. There were lockers which people used to put their blankets and belongings in while they ate their dinner, as well as t-shits at the front of the line that were up for grabs for…
