Their ideals were to educate those who lacked education, introduce or convert them to the Colonizing Nation’s religion, and to make the colony’s society more advanced. Though these are great ideals, some colonized nations already had what the Imperialist Nations had to offer.
Imperialism was a competition for those who were involved in it. The one’s with the most land, resources, and the best army were the ones who were considered the strongest. Germany believed that in participation in Imperialism, their military will strengthen and ,in doing so, protect their nation (Task 39). While all the Imperial nations were fighting for who had the most power, the colonist nations were being treated unequally.
The Philippines were in the process of being annexed by America. America’s main intentions to occupy the Philippines were to control foreign trade, to have trade routes to major exporting countries and expand territory and exercise military control. Their justification to annex was to help educate and introduce Catholicism into the Philippines even though most Filipinos were already Catholic. Filipino rebellions occurred which caused the Filipino-American war
